Going to Mid-Ohio for the first time July 3rd.... what's a good "fast intermediate" time????

I'm fired up for this one, new surface is looking great right?

Now we just need to raise a few million for new asphalt at Grattan. We'll pass the hat around at the next event, come on everybody, DIG DEEP!

just a guess...for approx stt intermediate times, click on some novice races and look at some of the slower guys at the back of the pack (maybe 1:45-1:55). depending on who shows up, advanced guys would probably be running 1:35-1:45.

what do you run at grattan? i could probably guess your mid-ohio time from that.

If you are running intermediate a 'fast' time would be low 1:50's and, believe me, that will be passing quite a bit ... you can run advance with mid 140's to mid 150's ... there are a few guys who can run in the 130's in advance ... I've seen guys running high 150's in advance and do OK ... I've run both groups and if you can run around 1:50 you're in good shape in either class ...

Hey Jig... This is Ron (FZ6 last year). Thanks for your input. I want to have a measuring stick when I get out to Mid Ohio.

I'm around 130 at Grattan most of the time (I think). I'll be out there again this Saturday, I'm sure I'll spot the Heavy Penny trailer as I pull in......

hey good to put a face with the name!

to guess laptimes at strange tracks, i always use percentage over lap record.

for example, the lap record at grattan is 1'19.035" and you run 1'30" so you are about 14% over the lap record.

i believe the record at mid-ohio is still 1'26.418"....so 14% over that would be 1'38"....but....mid-ohio is a track whose record is held by ama pros....so i would bump that up about 5 seconds and say you will be running 1:43-48"....but that's just a guess.

for reference, i turn 1'23 at grattan and 1'36 at mid-ohio. if that helps.

i'll see you at grattan, i'll be there both days....on the fz1!

That sounds good, I like your logic. 1.30 at Grattan is a good time for me at this point. I'll call it a great day at Mid-Ohio if I can keep it under 1.50 consistently, especially since I've never been there.

    See you this weekend.

good point. you're right...that's another factor...experience at that track. i failed to point out, as you stated, that you would be at those mid-ohio times once you've got the same number of laps at mid-ohio as you do grattan.
