I had a great time at Monticello!!!! Lets hear what did you think? Post your review here. Kevin
I had an awesome time, STT staff were great. Track was a little bit of a further drive than normal though so can't say if I'd do it again. I think the amount of riders was the most you could comfortable run on that track, not sure if the normal number of riders would be too much on track at one time or not.
I had a great time! I definitely agree about that being the max amount of riders on this specific track. I experienced a decent amount of 'bunch-ups', and there were numerous times where it was 3 or 4 wide braking into turn 1. I think it would only get more congested and unsafe with more riders on the track at the same time. JMO. That being said, I'm happy that STT made a couple areas "no passing". That made those areas with less run-off a little safer. While I definitely wanted to pass some people in those turns , it's just smarter and safer to not having passing in those areas.
I also thought the posted no passing zone were a good idea. I think STT did a very good job of making this track day safe. I just don't know that the south track will be able to be a regular on the STT schedule. No clue on north.
Well I definitely hope they'll be able to regularly keep it on the schedule. The more I think about it, the more I love that track! I've gone on Lightning a lot lately, so this is a nice break from the high speeds of NJMP. Definitely a lot of fun turns at this place. Plus for me, this place is only a little over an hour away, so this and Pocono are the closest two tracks for me. Umm, yeah, I'll choose Monticello if I have the choice
If Monticello becomes a regular fixture on the STT schedule i'll be shopping for a dedicated trackbike. Had a blast.
VIDEO - On board during one of the morning intermediate sessions. Not one of my best but a good review of the track. I had a great time and am really looking forward to the next event, whenever that may be... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQsOBSozhgk
I love that track! Beautifully landscaped & manicured, with a smooth, grippy surface that's very easy on tires. The big over-the-hill left-hand sweeper made me feel like I was in Earth orbit! The right-hand over-the-hill sweeper afterwards is a speed rush! The Armco never seemed dangerously close to the track, and people who ran off didn't seem to have any problems with it. Nothing like Pocono, where you can rub your elbow on the walls! As far as "bunching" of riders, I think that was mostly a factor of the Monticello track personnel not spacing the riders as they went out. To my mind, Monticello is reminiscent of Lightning in Millville and TPM had twice as many riders at the "All-Revved-Up" track day in June. 25 riders per group is a comfortable ride, but if the financials required it, 30-35 would just put us where we are with all the other tracks. The main problem with that is that we used up most of the parking with 75 riders. Perhaps they could open parking up by the clubhouse. To have such a nearby, first class track so near the New York metro area is fantastic! Jim B
Had a great time track was nice, just a thought maybe try running counter clockwise. What do you think ?
Just received my STT newsletter email, and Monticello is back on the schedule for Sept 7 (Labor Day,South course) & 8th (North course). Outstanding! I'll be there! Jim B
