Monticello is just around the corner and I cant wait. Its actually keeping me up at night thinking about the kink down the back strait. Finally we get to run a track bigger then a go cart track. I plan on getting there sunday late afternoon and staying close to the track. It would be nice to get together for a bite and a Beer. If anyone knows of a place near Monticello please PM me and lets put this together. Im all in. Kevin
Kevin, I was there in September and stayed at the Super 8. It's easy to get to and close to the track. I would go again, no issues and it was only $100/night w/free wireless and continental breakfast. There isn't much to do or see in Monticello, you'll see what I mean when you get there. I ate at a bar/restaurant called "The Nugget" on East Broadway, check it out. Also, here is what I think the layout is going to be.
I know were not to eat ! there is a Mc Donalds in Monticello that was seriously INFESTED with Flies like at least 500 all around the ceiling counters all over were people were eating. My freind and I were waiting inline noticed then went to wendy down the block. I'm not sure what road it on but its acroos from Icream shop. That was on the sept track day at moticello.
Looks like we'll be seeing some high speeds on that long kinked straight. As I recall, there are elevation changes there as well. I look forward to putting North & South together for the first time. Looks like we'll be running North in the opposite direction from September 7th. The chicane on the back straight would be a help keeping speeds down a bit. I've geared the Hawk for more top end speed, but it's still gonna be a humbling experience! Jim B Green Hawk
humbling experience! for who? the people you repass on the brakes. Dont worry I will remind them they just got passed by a guy riding a motorcycle made in the 80's and makes 60HP. wait....one brake rotor, right, yea someone will find humility thanks to the guy on the green nt650.
Thanks Link! Actually the Hawk is totally tricked out, so it's not that Vintage. Still, it won't win any wars on long straights. I just love to ride as fast as I can, and track days are what I live for. Jim B Green Hawk
one week from today we will doing the full Monti. holy crap I can not wait. Just a heads up, everyone should have new brake pads on hand as this track has multiple heavy braking zones. Renard, will you have any on hand. K
A friend forwarded this run around on Montecello. It's the best I've seen. Does anyone have a link to a bike vidio of the full course? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KI0OZ6D-Rw&feature=player_embedded
sooo....... how cold is too cold to ride at the track in the rain? I'm NOT diggin the forecast... yeah I'm a whimp. Michelle
Michelle, It all depends on your comfort level--you'd be surprised at how much grip is available in the wet, even at lower temperatures. What tires do you have on your SV? Renard can hook you up with a set of Pilot Powers that work great in all kinds of conditions (it's what I've got on my SV). In my experience, there are far fewer track day crashes in the rain than in the dry. Riders automatically become more cautious and keep their wits about them (that's a good thing!), and it's a great opportunity to learn how to ride more smoothly. Having said all that, let's hope for nice weather on Monday. 8) Hope to see you there!
I'm running Pilot Powers on my SV now. My biggest concern is the short chicane/ flip-flop over the ridge after the extra long straight and all the paint in that spot in the north section. Again.. perhaps I'm just a whimp... but I feel that section will be of great concern in those conditions. I don't know if the risk is worth it for me. hopefully the weather changes for the better and I'm just being an alarmist :? wouldn't be the first time they called it wrong...
national weather service noaa.gov is what I always use. Monticello NY Columbus Day: A chance of rain. Partly cloudy, with a high near 51. Chance of precipitation is 40%. It's ok.. we sold our spots to non-whimps hope everyone has a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
