Well, first of all my track weekend consisted of riding at two different tracks. I was at Grattan on Saturday and at Mid-Ohio on Tuesday. Well, I learned a little bit from both track days. I did Saturday at Grattan in Novice and Tuesday at Mid-Ohio in the rain. Grattan was definitely a track with character that really made me have to trust my suspension, use reference points, and work on my lines. Despite the brain fry at the end of the day I had a blast.(It was nice to meet the guy on the ZX-12R on Saturday too. I didn't talk to him much, but we rode in the same group on Saturday at the end of the day and for a first track day on a ZX-12R I thought he looked VERY GOOD!!!) Now about Mid-Ohio...... :cry: :cry: . I was really looking forward to a dry session there because it was my first day in Intermediate and I knew the track really well, but mother nature threw in a twist and the track was wet ALL DAY!!! I had never ridden on a track in the rain before(Except for a half a lap at Grattan in the rain Saturday) and it was quite intimidating. I figured the experience would be good and make me better though. Needless to say I'm not the quickest or smoothest rain rider to say the least. I learned that sealer strips are slippery too.(I'll get to that in a minute) The rain did really force me to work on my form and be smooth though. Despite lowsiding in the left hander right after Thunder Valley just before the right hand carousel I learned alot and still managed to have a good day. The track was starting to dry up a little bit, but not completely. I was starting to feel comfortable going a little faster since in wasn't as wet and I found out that the sealer strip was still slick and before I knew it I was on the ground. The only damage was my paint though. So considering everything I got out easy. I'll see whoever is at Grattan on the Saturday and Sunday in a couple of weeks with the joint Section 8 superbike and STT. Take care. Rabbit
That Section 8 day is a blast! Really cool people tossing 20+ grand Ducks like frisbees! (Well, it DID rain last year....) Sadly I'll miss that event this year. I'm headed to Mid Ohio to try to sell a few of my books to the vintage racing crowd. Why can't I be in two places at once? :cry:
Ahhh....Don't sweat it :wink: If I could I would just go to the track 6 days a week for the rest of my life.(Well, I would take a couple of weeks off for deer season...You might be a redneck if :lol: :lol: ) Unfortunately I'm getting paid at the moment to talk on the forum. :twisted: Well, you get the point. I might like to watch the Ducks get thrown like frisbees....sounds cool. I'll throw my green Kawi around. Well, hopefully not along the paint job again....Doh!!! :x
It was nice meeting you too Rabbit. Sorry to hear about your lowside at Mid-Ohio. Glad you and the bike came out of it alright. I'm trying to decided when to go next, I haven't heard of the Section 8 day, can you tell me about that? When? What? I was thinking of hooking up with Kensignton Motorsports track day on the 28th because I can't make the STT day on the 29th. Is the 29th the day you're speaking of? Chris
