Looking for respected engine builder in or nearby Michigan – say within 300 miles of Grand Rapids. Any advice would be appreciated.
Call Jamie... http://www.hanshawengines.com/ He's in South East Michigan and builds for the AMA guys.
I'm curious.. What does an engine build cost? I know it depends on what you need done but I am talking about 2 types.. 1. an OEM engine to SS spec 2. Complete engine builds / friction reduction.. Just a ball park cost is what I am looking for. Not that I am in a position to do this yet but considering it for future reference
Reuben does good work. http://35motorsports.com/engine-services.html At least gives you an idea of prices. Interested in what you pay up north.
Hanshaw builds some pretty stout motors, they seem to be pretty reliable as well.. I wouldn't hesitate to give him a motor for a refresh or build
He's one of the best. And we've dealt with a number of builders over the years. You won't find a smarter, more knowledgeable source. And best of all, he's timely.
Just for reference, this is a breakdown of what a DIY, OEM spec rebuild cost me: https://www.dropbox.com/s/r35m4gqn4vu49sg/2008 Engine Rebuild Cost.xlsx?dl=0 Cost was a bit extra since I had lots of internal damage (forced to rebuild, not just a refresh). You can tweak the "Quantity" fields and get some ideas.
The spreadsheet seems to be missing things like rings, bearing's, head work etc. Or am I missing something.
It's all in there, just gotta look closer P53, P48, P50, My reference to head work was vague, but I lumped up all of my machining costs on the right most side. U7 to U14 I "blueprinted" the head, and there wasn't much outsourcing needed for it (@10:05)
