:) I have a question for the tech. guys out their. I'm purchasing a new bike and concerning the break-in period, the manual says take it easy for the first 600 miles. I'd like to use it at Road America on May 10 for my 4th trackday ever. I currently have a 06 CBR1000 that i'm trying to sell. why? Way to much hp for a novice rider like myself. My question to you is how many miles should you have on a bike before you take it to a track? I will probably run novice in group 6 or 7. I don't want to shorten the life of the engine for a few trackdays a year since I'll be using it on the road also. If you can shed some light on this subject I would apperciate it. Thanks alot!!! Mike

    +1!
just make sure you change the oil before you take it to the track. the oil that's put in there for the first part of the break-in period is more or less cutting oil to assist the piston rings & cylinder walls to seal properly. the oil will be full of microscopic metal bits & will damage the motor if run hard for extended periods of time after the first few hundred miles. I'd recommend dino oil for the first oil change, then synthetic after that.

    THANK YOU!!!

:D I REALLY apperciate all the input this site has. I've only been riding for 3 years now. (late bloomer at the age of 40...my wife calls it a mid life crisis) "Thank you" for the suggestions and information you guys gave me. I'm just trying to gain some knowledge in the field of sportbikes and trackdays.
    THANKS AGAIN! Mike

+1 on "run it hard". I had exactly 20 miles on my R6 (7 of which were put on by the service tech that assembled it.) when i took it to the track for the first time. I basically ran it like i stole it and it hasnt missed a beat. Besides, if something breaks, its under warranty!!

Lots of debate on this topic, but most engine builders i have talked to say to run it hard.
