Hello all. A few months ago I went to MMC for the first time for a promo I recieved when I bought my new 1198 and rode with Doug Polen. I immediately fell in love with the track and found myself more interested in track days there than racing at loudon. At the Polen event the day was run by STT and was really impressed with the operation and just finally got around tojoining today. I have run the north course twice now and hope to do the south and 66 Labor Day weekend. I ran my 2001 R6 racebike a few sessions last time out but it is set up for Loudon and the gearing seemed terrible on the north course. I'm guessing it wouldnt be bad on the south course but if the north was bad I will be jumping off and pushing it on the 66 !!! It's hard enough jumping off the 1198 onto the Vespa, err, R6 as it is, so if anyone has any ideas as to appropriate gearing for the north and 66 course it would be appreciated.Really rather thrash the R6 around courses that i've never run than my new bike. It is basically a SuperSport, Dunlop GPs, Powercommander tuned for loudon, no super exotic engine parts.
    Thanx,
    Brett

I never rode Loudon, but Monti '66 is wicked fast, even if they use the chicane on the long straight. You will be bouncing off the rev limiter even with stock gearing. North is shorter but also very fast on the straight.... However, if you are willing to late- brake on the uphill right hander you will be OK with slightly shorter gearing. Much of the track is pretty tight & technical, so a 600 is happier with shorter gearing on most of it.

Thanks, I went and looked at my gearing and itis 15/48 or 3.2 to 1. As I said I've only run the north course but does it not seem like decent gearing? I'm afraid that climbing off a new 1198 onto this R6 is the real problem. I'd just like to get the best ride out of my p.o.s. racebike than to trash my new duc because I wasnt happy with it. It may very well be that I need to lower the gear to get it off the corners better. Was just hoping someone here has played with gearing at MMC and found something that works.
