    hi,
I'm currently running pilot power 3 on my gsxr600.
The rear tire is done but the front one is still in decent condition.
My 2 options for the new tires are:
    - dunlop q3
    - pirelli superbike pro

    my questions are:
    - do you guys think it is ok if I change just the rear tire? or do you suggest to put a new set?
    - if yes (to the first question), which one of the 2 options do you think goes best with the current front?

    any suggestion is welcome

If you were going with another PP3, I would say just change the rear. Since you are changing to another brand, I would change both.

I prefer to just change out the set as a whole. Just got my new Q3's put on and waiting for Barber(May 9th!)

I have changed just a rear before. I have not been on a pirelli before but I have been on a Q3 and it is a great tire!

The PP3 is a great tire... Just throw a new rear on it. The front will be fine.

Rear wear on Michelins is known to be a weak point, until the introduction of their EVO series this year (rumor is they wear much better). If you're using Michelin DOTs at the track expect to go through 3 rears to each front at an Intermediate to bottom half Advanced pace. Once you're faster and pushing the front more the wear is much more like 2:1 (rear:front).

    Thanks Tom.
So do you still suggest to put a pp3? The reason I wanna change is that towards the end of the session the tire build a lot of heat and I feel it sliding. Actually I risked to high side twice last Friday at Autobahn.

Thanks for the comments to everybody else too.

One Man's Opinion: I don't mind the tire sliding, and the Michelin DOTs will do this quite a bit as they lose material. Less tread = less material to dissipate heat. Once the tire starts to show wear it's a vicious cycle.

Since it sounds like you don't like to slide the rear, there are a few ways to go.

    1) Sell the front and try a pair of something new, like Power Cup EVOs, Q3s, BT-003s, etc.

    2) Mount a Power Cup Evo or similar rear tire. (The increased grip level at the rear might actually get you to push the front a little more, helping you to find the limit.)

    3) Mount another PP3 rear and revel in the fact that you don't have to change out for rains when a few sprinkles hit the track!

imo the superbike pros are awesome. Ran them for two weekends one at road Atlanta and one this past weekend at little tally.

    Pros

Two weekends in and they still have half life left in them.

You don't need warmers. With that being said I have never tried them without warmers.

Price point is great for what the tire is.

Basically a street tire type rubber with slick tread pattern.

    Negatives

. At a slow to mid advanced pace I have been starting to feel them slip a bit.

The front has about as much life in it as the rear so when the rear needs to be replaced I'm guessing the front will need to be too.

    Hope that helps.
