Well.... seeing that this is an active Super Fund site... let's hope it gets cleaned up. Rocky Flats took a LONG time and I personally still would not want to spend too much time there considering Plutonium has a half-life measured in thousands of years....... That not withstanding, 80%-90% of all track plans don't work out but we can hope that this one is going to!
Sounds nice, but it's looks very much in the idea stage. I wouldn't get your hopes up too high, unless this is a toxic Superfund site that's crying for a developer. I'd be VERY amazed if they get away with building a track around a museum. Also pretty close to a few rivers, which never sits well with the folks in the EPA. I would also be surprised if it gathers enough investors. Not exactly in the middle of the US population belt! VIR is not that far away and I don't think they pull in the crowds they were hoping for. Plus, there's competition from Road Atlanta and Barber within a few hours. Not sure if the population can support another track in that neck of the woods.
I think this track has been in the rumor mill for a couple months. As for tracks built next to a museum... um, Barber comes to mind When I see buldozers and asphalt trucks... s
That would be great- a track close to home! What's the dealio with Waterford Hills, Monte? has anyone ever looked into it?
FWIW, one of the guys over on GSB (georgiasportbike) owns property in the area. He said they contacted him about the project two years ago... sigh... s
and....RauschCreek has been in the discussion phase since at least 1993. You can ride it today, on a dirt bike.
what, insufficient run-off? that's too bad. it would be nice to drive less than an hour, for a change.
Yes, trees very close to the track, etc. I called once to check on doing a private track day and was told they don't do motorcycle events.
Basically zero run-off between track & guardrail or fence in a few places. Plus they have noise oridinances.
Looks like a FAST FAST track. I can just hear Monte at the riders meeting, mentioning that the STT store sells lap timers and gieger counters....
yeah....i looked into waterford hills, and found out the same issues, 1.) Noise ordinance, and 2.) very unfit for bikes...
I know this is my first post but I am very excited about the possibilities as I am from this area and worked at that site. FYI....Just recieved this email: "Friends of Oak Ridge motorsports - The last month has confirmed that East Tennessee does indeed harbor strong support for a motorsports facility in Oak Ridge. Your words have made a very positive impact on this initiative. I have read them all and responded to many. The decision on the future of this initiative is still being taken seriously at all levels. We have a very real chance at this incredible facility becoming reality. That is why it is important that I ask that a second wave of words be sent to info@eteconline.org to impress on the East Tennessee Economic Council your support. You might want to copy the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce at hardy@orcc.org . We all know that area businesses will enjoy the exposure that comes from major events and television coverage. Contacting local newspapers at info@oakridgeobserver.com and editor@oakridger.com is also a good idea. I encourage you to pass this e-mail forward to other motorsports enthusiasts and make sure we are heard loud and clear. Eric Wilson Fast Visions of Tennessee, LLC www.thousandsunsmotorsports.com" Eric also emailed me that a meeting has been requested by the Presidents of both the ORCC and the ETEC. So email if you feel moved.
