This track day is after the Moto-ST and Grand Am car races at NJMP, so a full weekend of enjoyment is possible.

This is per our director so lets go down and support the racers in Moto-ST we know one, who is doing well at WERA events and has earned his expert license. Mike Simms has been working with him all year (Paul) so we can go down and help or just cheer the team on as Moto-ST is an endurance race...

Be ware these are the most @n@l people I have ever seen running a track. They nickle and dimed everyone for everything. Fined the heck out of tpm for every paddoc issue. Got on anyone who rode a bicycle in the paddoc. It was a very strange atmosphere there.

Mostly damage to pavement as I understand. The pavement isn't cured and anyone who puts down a side stand will get a hole. Even the wheels of my rear stand sunk into it. Also Oil clean up was 600 bucks from what I am told and I heard there was a large charge for bike pickup but not sure that guy knew for sure. They actually wear fire suits to pickup the bikes. They also got on me about my characole grill. Apparently I should have know that it was not allowed. Very nice 40 year old woman next to us was chased down 3 times on her bicycle for some dangerous behavior of peddling . They charged members of you crew by the person $15 bucks as spectators. I know Glen had 3 meetings with the staff through out the day over issues. Also on the Lightning course there are problems with speed differential of riders big time. The course is so fast it will cause problems between a rider doing a 1:10 and a 1:18. Your average speed around there is 100 or more.

I'm signed up for the two STT days at Thunderbolt I hope they are better by then.

I would warn everyone to be on their best behavior before going. Try to find all the little rules they are enforcing and will fine you for. Also the cops drive through constantly. State and City not to mention the golf cart security patrol.

Where can we get a copy of these 'rules' and wouldn't it be a good idea to post them here?

I forgot to mention the beer patrol. They look for open beer during the day.

They treat the track day as a spectator event and are actually charging people to get in. It cost me 45$ for girlfriend and her mom and dad to get in.

I see nothing in these rules about cooking on a grill. I'm taking a copy with me next time.

I was at NJMP last week. So were my parents, and my baby. The staff was incredibly friendly and they were not charged for entry. Great facility and track--look forward to checking out Thunderbolt on Labor Day.

I did not bring my pit-bicycle but would have been surprised had I been told I couldn't ride it.

FYI if your bike has a side stand (i know most bikes do) please bring a 6" sq. pice of plywood to protect the new black top. and if you bring a motorized pit bike expect a $10 reg. fee... there should no problem for a bicycle... I going to the track for a visit saturday and will get more info on these issue.
    stay tuned............... :D

If you need a pice of wood please email a order I can make one for you
Place your order on this post or PM

There was no problem with bicycles they were just stoping peple with them if they came to an intersection and did not stop ect. There were no stop signs so I'm not sure why. You know how a paddock has crossing roads everywhere. The Second day they seemed to knock that stuff off a little.

BTW I am not saying it was a bad time. Just be aware of the situation. Hopefully by the time we go again they will have relaxed a little.

Well I sure as hell hope so!!! Alcohol & an open track isn't a good mix - even Pocono shut down TPM last year because people were drinking in the pit area during lunch & the track marshal didn't care if it was a rider or a guest - and how would they be able to tell the difference?

After the track day is over and no one is ride - sure, have at it, but if the track is hot - drinking alcohol is a dumbass move.

I'm not supporting riding and drinking ..just saying be aware to avoid problems. It was the first time in the 10 years I have been doing track days and racing that I had seen it. Many times I have quit the day early and had a beer.

I was on NJMP the last two day with the CA superbike school and I'll give you my impression. NOTE: This is on the Lightning course which was paved first.

The asphalt was plenty hard and no kick stand sank in and made a hole. The crash truck driver would always suggest putting something under the kick stand. Not demand, just suggest and then drive off.

The lightning course is quite fast. I heard some comments from different sources about it not being technical enough. Well, it is plenty technical once you get fast enough just about everywhere. One example, T10 (looks like it should be T1 on the map but is the last turn before pit lane exits on to the track in clockwise direction) is up hill on entry and apex but falls away on exit. It was quite easy to wheelie here with my R1 and the exit is more open than it appears. Its nice that they did build elevation changes in to the track in an area of NJ that is otherwise quite flat.

Working as a corner worker and riding the track with students new to this produced some big speed differentials. I'd say some of the differences in places had to be at least 40 mph, if not more and these were where I'm doing around 135 mph. I think the slowest corner is T6 at about 70ish. This is the left hander after going under the bridge.

T5 heading in to the bridge, well, the situation with the bridge should have been done differently in my opinion. Its fine for a track day but I wouldn't care to race it. Basically its too close on exit at a very fast corner.

There were issues with dust on the course in some places because of the heavy rains Sunday but this situation should clear up in time as the freshly planted grass is allowed to grow in.

BTW going moto when the dirt is dry isn't that bad (don't ask) as the ground was quite smooth too (at least for now) and hard with decent traction.

The security personnel treat the parking lots at access roads like public roads so if you ride with out a helmet on be prepared to be stopped. In the paddock area, if you keep your speed down; and by down I mean an actual 5 mph, you won't be stopped. The roads/driveways are different.

All the people I had contact with were friendly and my impression is that most of the employees are fairly new to this and everyone at the facility is learning how to handle everything. I believe a lot of the 'problems' will work themselves out over time. While the CA Sbk school didn't pay for camping, I was allowed to camp in my RV Tuesday night in the paddock with no charge (I didn't have any hook ups, i.e. electric). Pocono would never have allowed this.

I had no problems and enjoyed myself. The Thunderbolt course should only be more fun.

Awesome sounds like they are starting to relax a little and the pavement has hardened up. Speed differential was a big problem when I was there too. Guys doing 1:09 having trouble with guys doing slower.
