I haven't posted on here much in a while. Mainly because I've been going through a dilemma as to whether or not I should throw in the towel and stop riding the track the past few weeks. As we all know this isn't a cheap hobby and it's addicting so if you're not careful you can go over your head. I even missed a couple of track days. (Quite suprising I know.) The good news is I've found a way to save for next season and set a budget so throwing in the towel isn't even an option to me now. I love to ride too much anyway. The reason I posted this though is I was curious as to what you guys do in the off season. We all know it gets cold out here and I just felt like starting up a conversation. I guess I'll start. In the fall I deer hunt and I ice fish in the winter. I also bowl as well. (I'm sure that I will be dreaming of the track alot next year though. ) I'm a typical Michigan outdoorsman. I'm curious about the replies.
Hey, I bowl as well. I'm terrible at it, but I'm on a ladies league with my sister in law, who talked me into it even though I'd never bowled in my life. This winter I'm also hoping to try some ice racing on dirt bikes. I've done it in a car, and that was super fun. Driving around in a rally prepped Lancer Evo VI seems like cheating though, compared to a dirt bike with studded tires, all bundled up looking like Mr. Bibendum. And then I usually end up knitting about 50 scarves throughout every winter. No patience to do a whole sweater, and not good enough at it to make things like socks or gloves, and so, I make scarves. Lots of them.
Ice racing.....eh  . That sounds like something that could be a great way to kill some time and have a blast. Too bad I don't have a dirt bike. That would probably be a blast. Especially if the ice fishing is slow. I'm bowling on a league right now as well. I'm not that good, but I'm not horrible either. I guess that you could call me about the average Joe. It's a great way to kill some time and drink some beer though.
Let's see - I tear the bike down and do something to it, I've got to tinker with it... Other than that, I work alot and drink alot.. Not necessarily in that order... I hate winter in Indiana - anyone have an open IT job in Phoenix ????
Disassemble the bike and sevrice everything! You must show your bike love if you expect it to treat you well. All I did was maintanence and crash repair all summer, and I probably rode somewhere close to 40 days this season. Remove your bodywork, check for leaks, and clean everything spotlessly. Fix any leaks you find, no matter how small. Drain the water/water wetter that you've been running all summer and replace with anti freeze before the block freezes and cracks. Clean, examine, grease, rebuild or replace if necessary your: chain and gears steering head bearings wheel bearings suspension linkage and swingarm pivot brake cailpers and pads oil and filter replace brake fluid have forks and shock serviced compression and leakdown tests valve adjustment dyno run (compared to last year's run to see if the motor is getting tired) clutch inspection motor rebuild if necessary upgrades Then you also have to work enough OT to pay for all that, plus saving money for next season! So who has time to be bored?
I just winterized my baby last week. Of course I can't wait to run it again. When I read you're list racerk I did notice some things to do that I didn't think of though. I'm glad you put that out.
jig's winter list of things to do to the bike: 1) ghost ride the bike into the garage and store it wherever it lands 2) dust off hands. 3) go inside and play ea sports world superbike 2001 and e-mail travis screen shots of my times at donnington until he finally concedes that i can kick his ass at that game.
Thanksgiving I had my kayak out ,today the mountain bike . My hand is finally healed up enough to hold an oar and handle bars . The hard part is finding he time ....gets dark too fast here . Im giving my PS-2 to my nephews 3&4
hmmm. looks cool...looks alot like motogp? the only problem i have with motogp is that the horizon tilts. in the ea sports game, the bike and rider tilt but horizon stays level...more like riders perspective. i've gotten really used to that.
I've never played MotoGP. The horizon stays level in TT. My wife got it for me in June, so I never really had time to play it until now. It's maddeningly addictive, that's for sure!
Tourist Trophy ROCKS too! I picked it up the day before the USGP, since Laguna is on there. In fact, my 1:26.988 there on an R1 race bike currently has Travis nipped. Until he reads this that is. I've managed to get 100% complete with the game, so I started running in a weekly racing series through a forum on MotoGPboards. They're starting a ten week 600 Supersport series soon. You can check it out here: http://www.motogpboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15 It's not online racing. You just run the specified track, on the specified bike, in the specified mode, & post your time(s) by the specified deadline. There's some fast dudes on there! Probably going to give MotoGP 4 a shot during my free time in Phoenix this Winter.
So how do I move up in Tourist Trophy? I've lost the damn instruction booklet. I've earned all the license stuff except the final fast lap at Suzuka. I've been within .500 second, but haven't beaten that test yet. Meanwhile, I'm racing the 250cc streetbike cup on the scooter they give you, and I can't come any closer than about 6 seconds to winning a race. The bikes I have to race against are much faster, and I can't seem to win, but I can't figure out how to get another bike! Help me DJ!
Dude, you guys I'm behind the times. I don't even have a video game player. I once had a Super Nintendo, but I gave it away! This game sounds fun though.
