    Lance,

For reference, I've turned mid 1:28s at Grattan with Pilot Powers on the Mille. Rear tires usually last me 6-8 track days, and front tires are usually good for 2-3 rear tires. Granted, I have been accused of riding tires that are well beyond they're usefull life more than once.

Darkside, I would definitely NOT call Pilot Power Race (PR's)tires "street" tires. They are D.O.T. Race tires and are meant for the track and can loose their grip after too many heat cycles. Plus they take longer to heat up than street tires and are designed to work optimally at higher temperatures which is more difficult to achieve on the street.

The PR's are an ideal track tire, but if you are doing less than 70% of your riding on the track go with Pilot Powers which work fantastic on both the street and track!

for what it's worth, I did my first track day last August at Grattan and proceded to put about 1800 miles, at the track for the rest of the season, on a total of 12 days from mid aug-mid oct. and maybe 300 miles on the street, during that same time. i'm expecting to do my best to maintain that pace this coming season. for the most part, i'm done riding on the street; i've got the bug really bad. my main issue is tire fitment and getting the most out of the experience, until i aquire a proper sportbike. i guess pilot powers will do for now...

The Power race Mediums are the only PR that is considered streetable . According to Michelin , it's a street/trackday tire . The PRX's are the all out Race Powers with no use on the street . I've been using PR Mediums with good results on and off the track . So far they heat up well and no loss of grip to be noticed . I'm not blazenly fast but do ride at the top of Intermediate class and in Advanced with no problems .I've gotten 3 days from the tires at the track before putting them on the streetbike but 2 days is a bit more realistic .

I agree with you that the Pilot Powers are the best choice if you are doing less than 70% of your riding on the track . Just giving another option for someone considering sticker tires for the track . The Mediums work well and you get some use out of them on the street as well . If you're not going to use Pilot Powers then the PR mediums front/rear would be the next good choice . If you're only doing track then that's the next logical step in tire choice . I'm probably going to use PRX's this year for track only use myself with PP's on the street .

Heat cycles are a touchy subject . Have you read Michelins official announcement on heatcycles and the use of tire warmers ?

Where would we read this official information.

I disagree with statement that PR1-5 are only available to select racers. Last year http://www.bibmen.com/price2004.html these guys were NEVER out of stock and extremely knowledgeable about Michelin tires.
