I'm new to traxkdays and my first was on Aug. 12th @ Pocono FUSA, what a blast. The next trackday is Sept. 9th @ Pocono East. My question is how does Pocono East compare to FUSA? When i look @ the Pocono map its confusing, it looks like a couple turns on the back side of the track, and FUSA has to long straight aways and covers most of the track. So my question is, is it as good as FUSA and is it worth it?? :?:

is it as good as FUSA? that's a loaded question- it's a completely different track, shorter, more technical- the straight isn't as long, so it won't be as fast either, which for a novice, is probably a good thing. There are several challenging corners which makes for an excellent learning opportunity. there is questionable runoff- control is key here.
is it worth it? it's an hour and 45 min away from you- that's pretty close compared to the rest of the tracks in our northeast section- yes, it's quite worth it. I'll be driving a similar didstance- see you there!

The East course was originally designed for shifter carts. And if I recall correctly, Pocono East is 1.3 miles with 13 turns and FUSA is 'probably' around 2.5 miles long (or perhaps more) with 'about' as many turns....

You may want to check out the Pocono raceway web site to find more accurate info...

So first and foremost, one is a classic 'short track' and the other is a long-track. Both have more than their share of bumps and patches and run-off entails wet grass, mud and drainage ditches.

+1 on what Lance said - it's a completely different type of track. I personally prefer East to FUSA .. it;s not nearly as fast, but it seems to flow much better and the last time i was there (last season) it wasnt as bumpy as FUSA. It is a technical track, with a bus stop and some fun s-turns... also fun if you have friends/relatives watching because the entire track can be seen from the side lines.... I'll be there.. driving from beaverun on saturday!.. cant wait!

You are a nut cast for track days :D

    I agree lance

Pocono east is 1.6 miles with 10 turnes

Ponoco patch a few turnes and smoothed out one place and added a bigger bump after the hair pin turn 9 just before turn in.

    I will be there also
Hopefuly I will not get a flat :( on the motorhome going home :)

Pocono East is 1.4 miles long (this length is the correct one) with 10 numbered turns and 2-4 turns/kinks/or change of direction not numbered (depending on one's point of view).

The course is challenging, short, mostly point and shoot with a couple sections that flow more than the rest and is technical. The course is run counter clockwise and has only two rights of any great concern.

This place is more fun and safer than your favorite stretch or road. The track is safer than some and more dangerous than others. No matter where you go the ground is hard, so don't crash.

If you look up Long Pond on MapQuest you can find the track and look at an aerial photograph, BTW it looks like the photo was taken during a Keith Code California SuperBike School day.

    Lots of conflicting info....

Direct rom the Pocono website: Pocono East 1.6 miles 12 turns
    Aerial Map:[IMG]

Then again, it's all marketing.... the East course doesn't seem like it lasts 1.6 miles...

And I wouldn't say it's a point & shoot track - but my main bike is well under-powered, so I have no choice other than to keep the corner speed up and flow smoothly.... on a full liter I4, it might be a point & squirt, but what fun is that?

In terms of lap times, the well-ridden SV650's and RS250's do very well there - and the guys with the motards are always having the most fun....

    orangeblood,
The East course is definatly worth the trip. Like someone said, it's better than any public road and it's only an hour & 45 min. from Binghamton, which by the way is where I'm from. We'll have to meet up some time. I know the best place to stop for ice cream after a great day at the track :D

    Please do tell!

For very good pizza & a surprisingly good selection of beer, Leonardo's is the place. It's on PA 940 about 10 minutes from the track.

When driving from the track - take PA 115 North towards Blakeslee and make a right at the light onto the 940 East. Look for the Wawa convenience store at the intersection of the 115 & the 940 to make the right - Leonardo's is down about 2 miles on the right.

I personally like the east course better than the FUSA course and the reason is simple survival instinct. You see, both tracks have limited/no run-off in almost all turns, plenty of corners with no curbing, drainage ditches and ravines on and just off of the track, and a couple of choice walls to go careening into if you want. On the east course though, you take on all of these things at a lower speed. :)
