I can't decide if I like that track or not. Part of my brain's saying that it was really fun, a great layout, wonderful to use the left side of my tires for a change, and rather grippy (even when wet). But another part of my brain says that is the WORST condition track I've ever been on, bumpier than anything (I need to check my bike over for backed out bolts now I think), it's thinner than my driveway, and pit-in/out is shared with car traffic (and people say Alan Wilson pit-in/out's are dangerous?!). I think I'll just say that it's the most fun P.O.S. track I've ever been on! LOL. It was great meeting, riding and working with all of you! Oh... and Doug Henry is fast! Wow that was a pleasure to watch!
Yeah Henry was on a motard. He didn't have the top speed on the back straight of the sportbikes, but he had more speed onto the straight and better braking and speed coming off the straight, so he rarely lost any position even on the straight. It was so nice to watch him back it into a turn side-by-side with riders dragging their knee. Hehe. Oh and Travis Pastrana was out there on Saturday. But unfortunately he never got his motard running and out on the track. But I did speak with him a few times. He's a great guy, very personable and nice.
Sportbikerchick, It was nice meeting you. After you left on Saturday I ended up crashing in Turn one with the advanced group. Some other rider parked his bike in turn 1 and I had to go up the inside of him to avoid him. Unfortunately, I ran out of track and my front tire hit the ditch outside of turn 1. That, and the wet grass made for an ugly combo. Here are some pics. You're in a couple of them.
Hey Mary, I think you were the instructor that tried to lead me around for a few laps Sat afternoon. (the pony tail looks familiar) Thank You. Unfortunatly I had already hit a deer on the way to the track and put my 2 day old Duc749 down earlier so I was giong very slow to say the least. I hope I wasn't getting in to many peoples way, I tried to just keep a smooth, consistent line and let people past on the back straight. Thanks to Pete, Kath, Renard, and others for trying to help with spare parts. Thanks to Poppo for telling me to get on my other bike and at least cruise around. Ya know, on the way home I was thinking "what a bad day" but for some reason I was happy, relaxed, and enjoyed the day :?: Funny how riding bikes can do that. Gavin
Turbo329, I didn't know you crashed too. sorry to hear that. guess we'll both be looking for some 749 parts. hope you're ok, how bad is the bike? Gavin
I need: a clip-on bar $15 Epoxy Putty for my radiator $30 (radiator has a tiny crack.) Master Cylinder repair kit and lever $90 Rear Brake pedal $10 Dzus Fasteners $10 Total = $155 Plus whatever it costs to repair my bodywork. Probaby around $300 or so. Next month I'll get a new helmet. BTW, AGV Stealth Rocks!!! I bumped my head and didn't even realize it until I saw the damage afterwards. When I crashed in my Shoei RF1000 I had a headache for days. I'm pissed because my tank has a scratch in the upper right hand corner.
I didn't leave early on Saturday, so unless you ran some 7pm session that I didn't know about then I was still around somewhere. LOL. Sorry to hear about your crash man. It was a pleasure meeting you as well.
Yes it was a pleasure. I had a lot of fun hangin wichya! Maybe we can hook up for a mid Ohio, Summit, or a Beaver one of these days.
Guys, I just wanted to clarify, I'm not blaming my crash on another rider. Don't want any bad blood here. I mis-judged what the other rider was doing and it just panned out all wrong. I'm glad he didn't go down with me. Cheers.
Hank brought it to my attention so I figured it would be best to clean it up. Daekwan is a nutjob. lol We gotta all hook up for a trackday soon.
Crap! I was hoping we would have the other rider post and liven this place up with some verbal assaults. j/k. Glad you were ok and the bike only had minimal damage.
I have the crash on video so when I get it converted I'll post up. It's an old tape so the quality won't be that great.
Great event STT!! I think I can speak for some of us Reduc refugees that before arriving at Pocono some of us were a little nervous about how things would pan out. I was pleased to see how things were run. I really liked how our group went out at the same time every hour, just look at your watch and you know when to get ready and head to the track. Although a part of me missed Marco on the bull horn. I for one will continue to attend STT events. BTW, if you look at my Avatar and say to yourself "Hey, I didn't see that bike there" I have painted the tail section black and I was running in the Advanced group on Sunday. (Not that anybody really cares).
Well, I care! (does that help?) It was kinda cool seeing (and hearing!) all those two strokes out there. An Aprilia family reunion of sorts. Plus four strokes don't smell as neat when you're behind them...well ok race fuel smells pretty good. I'd do a track report, but where would we post it? Here, ya think? I had a good time working with STT's instructors, picked up a few new ideas, and met some VERY enthusiastic new riders. All in all a great event. Now if we can just get the darn weather to cooperate!!!
Dave, thanks for showin' a brotha some love. BTW, nice exhaust note your SV was singing. I always knew when you were behind me.....even when you were 3 turns away.
It was kinda fun...Antirich was so surprised I passed him on noise alone in the hairpin. I still gotta JB weld the muffler back together.
Dave I had a good time just riding. Did you think Robbie got a work out doing the instructing thing :?: All I did sit in my loung chair, ride once an hr. sit in the lounge chair, talk to goods old friends and met some new friends. Good man time GRRRRRRR
