How do the Power Cups (old non-evo version) handle the rain? I figure they would be pretty horrible because they have very few voids.
It's pretty bad to be honest. That tire needs heat to work properly, the wet sucks the heat right out of them. Even if it rains a little I throw on a street tire. Making me consider just using slicks instead of the cups.
I have rode them in the rain.......it is a lesson in throttle control for sure!! Not the best option by any means.
What he said....can you do it? Yes, most certainly. Will it be fun? Maybe, maybe not....it's all in what you expect. There are many better options as Andrew mentioned. I've ridden them all day in the wet....slowly. [emoji16]
Can you say "riding on an ICE rink"? The best thing to do, if you have to use them in the rain is twofold......be incredibly smooth on the brakes and throttle AND upshift a gear higher than you normally use!
I had more wet days than dry this season. One set of cups has lasted me all year! Gets old real quick swapping tires every morning. Guess that's the way it goes sometimes.. hah
yup... I cant say anything more than already meantioned... they are slick in the wet... you HAVE to be smooth consistent in all inputs or you'll end up on your bum... but you could learn a lot in the same turn...
Was told to avoid the track like the plague if it's damp. How in the world did you make it all year, I'm in novice and ate my cups in 4 days.
Can confirm: Damp conditions of any sort with Cups mounted result in an exercise in slide control front and rear.
I would strongly suggest Rains for wet weather performance... it's just good practice to have the right tool for the right conditions. Think about risk and reward. Pick up a set of Rains and you'll never look back. http://www.sportbiketireservice.com/Michelin-Power-Rain-Rear.html
