power pure / power one tire warmers?

I'm thinking of switching from pilot powers to power pures, or maybe to power ones, as my bike is a track only machine. Only thing is, for now I am willing to sacrifice performance to not have to sit next to a generator running warmers all day. Are any of these tires meant to be used with warmers? How is the wear on power ones without warmers? Thanks.

  2. Neither the Power Pure's or the Power One's need warmers. If you are riding mid-pack Intermediate pace or above, I would suggest the Power One's. The Power Pure's will work up to and including an Advanced pace however the Power One will provide a bit more grip.

Power Ones are a race tire and should be used with warmers. Power Pures do not need warmer and will provide excellent grip all through the range of advanced group riders. You will not likely win races or set lap records with Pures, (unless its raining ) but Power Pures provide excellent performance for a trackday tire. I love them.

Actually, there are two types of Power One tires. There is the "commercial "version that do not require warmers. These will not have an A,B,C or V in a circle on the sidewall. Warmers can be used with these, but you probably need to be careful about overheating them.

The other tires are A, B, V fronts and A, B and C rears. These tires are DOT race tires and should generally be used with warmers.

    Yeah - what on2wheels said.

And to add to that. You don't "NEED" warmers. Its a track day, not a contingency race. Sure, heat cycles and longevity... But its not a "need". Give then time on your sighting lap to heat up and you're golden.
I coached this whole weekend at ACC with a PowerOne B front and a C rear without warmers. On the same set that I ran at Road America three weeks earlier - again, without warmers. And they'll be good for a few more trackdays still.

Pilot Pwer 2CT and Power Pure in my experience require NO warmers and i run at the front of ADV, on old '03 R6, :16's at BHF, :27's at Grattan.... these tires and their equivilant competition are so good now its ridiculous. The race rubber due to profiles do allow quicker turn in. The only issue i've had is at Jennings in 85+ heat, the 2CTs slipped, Pures were better, PSI may have been incorrect though & possibly sandy track.

Plus these tires last a long long time! i get 400+ miles out of them and then sell them. thats at least 3 full track days, even doing double duty while coaching...

IMO anyone who is in Inter should be on these tires and not DOT race!

I've now got 7 days, doing 8-14 sessions per day on my Power Pures. I've flipped the rear after 5 days; the front looks like new, running mid pack advanced pace. What a great tire!

  8. Agreed! I even managed to ride 23's at Loudon on the Pure's.

    Hi Guys

Wondering if someone can answer my question concerning these Power Pures. I read a test where every single test rider that day (somewhere in Europe) ran wide coming out of the corners with the Power Pure but only with Power Pure

Is this behavior a function of the Power Pure (tire) or is it something else?

I am real close to buying these based on comments above but I spent a day at Autobahn and kept running wide (pilot powers/non 2ct). I felt like it may have been of my own doing since I spend most of my track days at Autobahn and did not have that issue before? I don't want to buy a tire prone to running wide either. Personally i think i got locked in a rut of picking the wrong apex but i would like another opinion.

    Thanks!!

In general, "running wide" is not a function of a tire. Rather, It is a function of set up. That being said, there may be some slight differences in the Pure's that change the geometry of the motorcycle by increasing or decreasing ride height b/c of tire diameter. This is fairly common between tire brands and/or models within a brand.

I have not ridden the Pure's yet, so this is mere speculation. Either way, the "running wide" can easily be fixed with some simple suspension adjustments. I would NOT let that sway you away from the tires in any way! A little slap and tickle on the adjusters and the bike will be just fine!

    Thanks!

That makes perfect sense. I am working on the suspension right now anyway so it will be starting fresh regardless. I will order the pures

For some reason too, I got my email address being used as my username. That was not supposed to happen

I ran power pures all last year and never had a handling issue with the tire other than after 11 days of coaching on a set, riding 12-16 sessions per day, the front tire began to slide predictably and gently hook back up ant a moderate A-group pace and did it the following day as well. I don't recommend that anyone do that many days on a set of power pures; I did, because I'm an idtio and was writing an article about them. ymmv

    Thanks Lance

That seems like a lot of sessions on those tires at that pace. At best I am at moderate Advanced pace but like I said "at best". I have much to learn.

I like what you said about predictability though. If my tires were to go off, that is the way I would want it.

I thought about what Justin said and realized I had changed the rear shock that particular day without changing anything else which was dumb (lazy).

This year I plan on having the bike setup right and work on my riding. This way I know where I started.

Bottom line between the two of you I see I will be more that fine buying these tires.

    Thanks for the input!

    Mike

yeah, it was quite a bit. I'd say these tires are easily good for 6 days- they're a tremendous value!
