Sounds fishy to me... 20mph, ran through a mail box and slid 20+ yards. More likely wheelied out of control and hit the mail box... But who knows :?

Now that you mention it that sounds like quite the possibility too

    frame

I saw some stuff on the internet last year about this. the guy who claimed he was going like 30 and his bike fell just fell apart, apparently hit a wall and by the looks of things was going alot faster than 30. I think people are just trying to scam the manuf. for their own stupidity. In my opinion if the frame weakens to the point of failure it is going to fail when their is a lot of stress on it, heavy acceleration, hard turning, extreme weight, high speeds. but since I am an owner of an '05 1000 I guess I am a little biased. I think it is the best bike ever.

Personally I'm not concerned; If my '02 hasn't split in half already, I don't think it will. Just thought that this was curious and worth discussion.

There have been numerous reports of this happening. Last year a couple AMA racers had the same welds fail which led to serious crashes.

Lance the big difference is that all the newer GSXR's have vacuum sandcast frames. When they fall down and go boom, they crack.

Our older GSXR's are extruded, when they fall down they bend. Then you straighten them. Their disadvantage over the newer ones is that they are not as rigid and weigh more.

Have to agree w/ nate on this one. I dont know that i have ever SEEN a Gixxer 1k doing only 20 mph.... especially in the hands of a 21 year old kid! I am 30 and not responsible enough to own one yet! That sounds like a "but officer, i was only going 20 mph!! there is no way i could do anything wrong!" line to me. But who knows... maybe i am just jaded!
