I'm looking at maybe hitting this track. What's the weather like that time of year? Good and bad points about the track. Thanks Chad
Weather is a toss up in early April. Putnam Park is fairly fast, silky smooth, and sticky. You will enjoy it.
Track is great, fast and flowing, good pavement. Probably one of the better surfaces around. Weather like mentioned earlier is a toss up in early april. Last year, we went at that time and it was freezing, like 40's with a stiff wind. The weekend before that it was in the 70's. I may wait this year and try to go last weekend in april.
I'm planning on being there. I've never been to this one either though......Hey, UFGO what's up? You were at my very first track day at Mid-Ohio last April.
I LOVE Putnam Park. It has a swooping, fast, utterly addictive layout, and is in a very beautiful setting of rolling rural fields and gleaming white fences. In spring, all the trees there are in flower! Think Field of Dreams, but with motorcycles instead of baseball. As was said, weather is iffy in Spring. Also, you can't camp there. You'll need to get a Motel in Cloverdale, or park your RV at the WalMart.
Hey K3! Where does Monte put the rig (overnight) when you guys go there? Ever try any of the surrounding campgrounds? Geeze, it's cold here! 4 degrees 6 blocks off the lake.
+1 on fun layout, good track surface, but iffy Spring weather. I think the big rigs usually end up at the local WalMart. Otherwise, there are several below average hotels & motels to choose from, & a couple decent ones. The Cloverdale RV Park is another possibility for those that don't mind camping. Just be prepared for Christian Karaoke Saturday Nights. Not much going on around there outside the track, so make sure you go with fun people or meet some at the track. Don't go racoon hunting with Bavol though.
just be very careful who you ask for directions in the area. You may be listening a while and leave feeling like you didnt get any useful information. Be prepared to delete phrases like "whatchagotta do is..." and " an everthang" out of sentences to gain useful information. For example, if you were to ask a liquor store owner where to buy firewood, you might get a ten minute answer that goes something like this: "Now, whatchagotta do is, drive down the road, an everthang, and go right up under the highway, an everthang. Now, the road is gonna curve to the right, an everthang, and there is a guy who sells firewood that lives just over the hill, an everthang, that lives on the right. now, when you pull in his driveway, an everthang, make sure you knock on his door, an everthang and he will take care of you, an everthang." TRANSLATION: go back the way you came and under the freeway. Turn into the driveway on the right as the road curves, and knock on his door. Don't ask how i know this one....
Yep that's me! How you doing? After MIDO I hit Gratten 2x with Apex2Apex. Nice group of guys and gals. Finally got my knee down on the last few laps at my last track day. I was getting ready to catch a third day at the year but had to cancel. I totalled my wifes bike hitting a deer at 60mph. Frickin deer! Took half the skin off my right foot. It's just now getting better so I'm looking forward to another riding season.
Thanks for all the great info. I've just got for figure the $$ since my wife an I are hitting deals Gap a few weeks after that. Actually, my wife might come with me to the trackday. I'm not sure if she's running too??? If not I might be looking to share room expenses with anyone?
Hey, now that sounds like something that I would do!! ........Too bad it doesn't coincide with deer or Turkey season.
Can someone post of information oin Putnam . Im going to be there for the first time Apr 7-8 Hotel's to stay in and $$ an dphone #'s, where do most folks stay? Can bikes be left at the track, safe and secured. I'll be driving down in the Morning from Columbus OH ( not far) , so just be there the one night Looking forward to the first outing of the FZR600 , quiet the contrast to the Big Beast in my avatar( Still have it of course , just didnt want to wad it )
Several local hotels/motels listed on http://www.putnampark.com/. You can leave stuff at the track, but you can't stay there.
Save yourself the pain & suffering & just go dumpster diving for anything flammable. For reference, synthetic motor oil doesn't make for a good fire starter, & there are cheaper things to use than race gas.
OH MY GOD.......I DON'T WANT TO KNOW!!!!!     I must admit that sounds pretty funny though.
Columbus Too heading in Myself and a friend will be heading in from Columbus on Friday. If interested in coming let me know. We are only signed up for one day as of now though. Sean
