I am thinking of turning my CRF450R into a Motard. Currently I ride in Advanced with my race bike. Can I register in two different classes? Advanced with the race bike and NOVICE for the Motard till I get used to riding it on the track..... How does running the two bike system work? Of course i am NOT talking about doing two sessions per rotation ...but Advanced on the street bike on hour....Motard the next hour. I tried to search but apparently I suck at these search engines.

How does this work? Ecspecially if you are way faster on one and not the other.........I may be alright..just never been on a Motard.

The Motard train looks FUN!!!!! I want to learn.

STT will let you run 2 bikes but when you want to switch one bike needs to be brought to tech and either held there while you ride the other or the sticker removed. As far as 2 seperate classes, no, you must ride in the class you signed up in. My recommendation, maybe somewhere like Tally, because of the cost for 2 days is great and it's a crap load of fun on a Motard, sign up for 1 day Advanced and one day Intermediate. Tally is where I learned to ride my Motard. Also riding a Motard in the rain instead of your sportbike is alot of fun and a GREAT way to learn. My first time on the Motard at Barber was last march when it rained all day Sunday, I had the track to myself and learned alot. If you convert it and want someone to ride with at STT events just let me know I'll ride with ya and there are about 4-5 others of us at STT that ride them atleast some everywhere we go.

Rodney thanks man, i would love to be able to tag along. I thought about selling it...then started feeling guilty cause i wanted to motard it in the first place. Did you buy your ready to go or did your convert it. i know i will need 16x 3.5 F and 17x5 wheels, brake kit, bar ends thatbolt to the triple, headlight (for the street), maybe a better master cylinder...at least to start with. Been spending alot of time on Supermotojunkie. Any suggestion where to get parts resonable.. Would love to come across some used wheel cheap....

dont forget to go with the 6 speed transmission (so you dont blow your dirt gearing), stator kit, electric start... you honestly may do better selling the dirtbike and buying a SMR or another one that is already built up

why the 16.5 front? why not standard 17 on front...

I have read everywhere the the 16.5 improves the handling exponentially. Not sure about changing out the trans..... Can you put an electric start on a CRF405R??????

on the electric start i would assume so since the crf450x (i believe its the x model) has electric start on it.

unless you are 100% expert hard core racer i wouldnt mess with the 16.5'' rim, not alot of tire choices in that venue at your local trackday. plus if you were to run it on the road i dont know of any street tire that is in 16.5'' sizes (im sure there are some but since i have been riding bikes its always been 17's)

if you're building it for track only duty it would be feasible and worth it to put the money into it. but to put all the street stuff on it thats gonna cost you out the A$$. the stator, light kit, and estart probably run you over 1K alone. plus the moto wheels, tires, brake kit, 6 speed transmission, supermoto suspension, thats a chunk of coin when you could just sell your dirtbike and buy a bitchin race ready model. i just sold my 05 ktm 450smr for 4100. right now is the time to buy

If I do i think I would only do the wheels, brakes, light and have it resrpung.. I am such a noob in the dirt..what is a strator cover?
