Does anyone have any experience with Race Tech products?
I am looking to overhaul my suspension on my 2006 R6. I'm thinking about installing the 25mm cartridge kit and fork spring in the forks and a possible rebuild of the stock shock with the Race Tech product line. I have read some good results with this rebuild (Sport Rider, 01/08 issue page78).

Furthermore, I'm in a bit of a conundrum whether to rebuild the rear shock or purchase and Elka 3-way Shock. The cost for the rear shock rebuild is about 400.00. The cost of the Elka 3-way is about 900.00. I will be doing alot of track days this year(Advanced) but no racing at this time. Any imput would be appreciated.

As for the Rear shock... surf the WERA forum for a used Ohlins or Penske. Will fall right in between those two price points probably. Dont worry.. i havent forgotten about that lap timer either. Just a long way from my house and dont get there often!

I used the race tech in my 2000 r6 and it worked well (front). I bumped up to the ak20's on my 03 r6 and love them even more. I have an ohlins for the rear shock on the 03 also and it has done a fantastic job also. I agree with Justin on surfing the wera bbs for an ohlins (or penske).

im using a race tech gold valve and stiffer springs om my rc51 and it is a great improvement from stock im shure there are better mods but it flips my boat lol.
as for rear shocks ive had good luck with penskie i have a double clicker on my race bike-sv1000 and a triple clicker on my rc51. i myself dont have enough talent to fully take advantage of the triple clicker but both work great..................wayne

    Justin,
Thanks for the info that helps alot! Don't you run a Penske on your R6? If so did you buy it new or used? Let's say I bought a 2 year old Penske shock should it perform on par with a new one or would it have to be rebuilt soon (let's say its been used moderately)? Take your time with the lap timer, no rush.

Thanks, Nick and Wayne! This info helps out alot! Do you guys have an opinion of Elka shocks?

P.S- With all these options one has to ask himself,
"What would Brian Healea do ?"

i was looking for an elka shock for my 2000 r6, but a crashed ended the search. i haven't heard anything about them in a negative fashion. i also haven't kept up on the newest line that elka has. howener, they have done well in the off road arena.

**Anybody on the forum have any info on them?**

I run an ohlins triple on the rear of mine. I am planning for an Ohlins 20mm kit in front. the 25mm is more than my talent needs at this point.

Todd Thomas ran an Elka on his 05 gixxer 1000 with no problems. He came from an ohlins and liked the elka well enough. It did have a bit of a leak around one adjuster that was taken care of, and he was not too fond of the preload adjuster... was blocked by the swingarm.

As for a used shock, they will not perform exactly as new, but one that is a year old shouldnt give you too much problems.

Really depends where you see yourself in a year. If you really plan to do alot of track days and for see yourself racing in the near future... Put a cartridge kit in the front and a racing shock on the back. I think the AK20's are the best buy for the dollar for the front. I use a Penske double clicker in the rear. The penske is more than most of us can handle anyway. The triple's are good too but require more time to get adjusted. During a trackday, in my opinion, I only want to make a few minor adjustments and ride. If I'm tuning half the day I'm not having fun. And that's why I do trackdays. For fun... :D
