Hey you guys. I just have a couple of questions. Well, the first one is doe's STT have people to set up suspension at all STT events and how much is it if they do.?I would rather learn to do it myself, but being new to this stuff I have no clue. It road fine on the street last year, but I did notice that the back seemed a little stiff on bad roads like M-14 last year(Michigan weather.) It seemed like the wheel wanted to hop.

The other question is pretty quick. What type of tire pressure should I be running at the track? I know it's different than the street too, but I don't know if it's higher or lower. I'm sure that this stuff won't really come into play being a newbie right now, but I feel that it couldn't hurt to set it up right and learn something else while I'm at it. Thanks.

Last year Maximum Performance & Handling came to a number of events and did trackside suspension set-up as well as post crash frame measurement. I've used them for both  great guys, highly recommended!

Also, Superbike Italia is STT's "official" suspension vendor, and will be at Putnam, next weekend. I bought my Ohlins for the BMW from them.

both shops charge $50 for suspension setup (as of last year, that is) and it is money well spent. they can also hook you up with aftermarket suspension, as well, should you feel the need. MPH is a vendor for Penske; Superbike Italia pushes Ohlins.

    Cheers,

After market suspension would be cool, but right now I think that I need to learn to be able to reach the most that mine will give right now. Whenever I get better I will keep that in mind though. By the way what would an aftermarket suspenion cost if such a thing happened in the future????

for Ohlins you're looking at around $900 for the rear, $3000 for R&T forks, $600-800 for ohlins internals. Other suspension co's are slightly cheaper. your best bet is to get a shock and have someone like Thermosman or Racetech revalve & spring your forks. You're right though, since you're a noob, don't spring for the bling just yet. a good setup will do wonders. I only got the Ohlins shocks for the beemer because at 250#s, i couldn't get even close to a good set-up & with 30,000 miles on them they were shot anyway, & I had money burning a hole in my wallet.

Unless you weigh in at the magic # of 155 pounds, you will definitely need new springs though.

as for tire pressure, Monte gives suggested pressures at the riders meeting in the morning.

Bikoman's link is an excellent place to start, but you'll definitely want a buddy to help. PM me I Might be able to ride up next week & give you a hand, if you need it.

Well, I don't weigh the magic 155#, but I do weigh 145. I don't know how close that is suspension wise. I will be in Chicago this weekend and I have drill next weekend. I will definitely try and PM you to see when you could be available though. Thanks alot!! :D :D :D :D :D

Get an Ohlins rear shock and 20mm internals. Your looking at about $2K for the package.

I just read the suspension guides you gave me on the suspension article from Sport Rider. That was good reading. It didn't have the recommended starting setting for the 05 zx-6r, but from reading what it said about static sag, rebound dampening, ect. I think that with some help I could get it set pretty close. Thanks.

So are you saying that I'm most likely going to have to get a softer spring??????I can't afford one right now, but if that's the first thing that I should change on my suspension. I'm sure that I can make it happen sometime this summer.

    Front: Spring preload--3 lines showing

Rebound damping--2.5 turns out from full stiff

Compression damping--1.5 turns out from full stiff

Ride height--6mm fork tube showing above triple clamp

    Rear: Spring preload--2 threads showing

Rebound damping--14 clicks out from full stiff

Compression damping--0.75 turns out from full stiff

The above is a baseline for an average rider on a 05 ZX6R
