Speedometer connection needed?

    Hi,
At ACC I had the speedo on my 07 r6 disconnected to not show my speed. After a short period of time, the engine warning light came on and returned an error code. I also noticed, but not sure if it was the same time or not, that throttle response was extremely on/off, which was very unnerving mid corner getting on the gas, and would bog down sometimes giving it a handful coming onto the straights.

Does anyone know if the speedo is needed to be connected for the efi to function correctly on this bike with the "fly by wire" system? The workshop manual indicates that it is part of the whole system, but I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with this issue? I am not a the track for a while to test it out with the speedo connected again.

    Thanks,
    Glenn

Though I do not have the service manual in front of me, I believe the R6 does use the speed sensor to calculate the gear you're in for fueling purposes. I would not be surprised if it would have an effect as you would be running on a default map instead of the appropriate map for that gear.

A piece of painters tape over the speedo would be a much better solution.

Yes, it appears that keeping the speedo connect makes a lot of difference. Off/on throttle response much better.
