STT Tracks Electrical Availability and Specifications

    Today I was looking to get some information about power availability and specifications for my upcoming Barber trip. Forum search provided some information but that's when it came to me: what if we had a document that has ALL the STT tracks with all the details regarding power availability and specifications. It would very helpful to anybody going to a new track. I will try to add edited aerial maps to pin point power boxes locations etc.

    You must be an electrical engineer. I don't know many other people who get that excited about Nema spec plug/receptacle types. :first:

    NEMA spec is the only sure way to bring the proper plug...:thumb:

    The bottom line is that if you show up at the track with your brand spankin' new cord with the wrong NEMA plug attached to the end of it......you ain't getting no power from the provided receptacle......end of your electrical day! :bounce:

    Kind of like trying to plug a USB cord into a firewire system!

    when you go to buy track day, nowadays it says "power available" for any track that i knew had the power :)

    and camping. n stuff :)

    Yes Supergirl, you are AWESOME and provided that information.
    However, OCD junkies like myself like to know more details as: how many boxes area available, cost, connection specifications (plugs etc), power quality (is this a proper setup designed and installed by an electrician or is it "home-track made"), actual location of receptacles. I will for sure pick Steve's brain next Saturday at the moto show about all those details regarding Barber. In April it will be my first time, I blush just thinking about it :jester: .

    This information isn't critical, but nice to have IMHO.


    I always like to bring a backup for everything, but for my upcoming trip I might need to travel light. Plus...it's winter what else there is to do then worry about the first event in Spring? :cheer:

    We will have Yamaha generators for rent also.

    Bogdan, In my experience, a generator is the only way to guarantee you will have GOOD clean consistent power. Every track I have been to has had power issues. I don't even care if they have power now, I just count on bringing Jenny.

    All I have to say it it's not always the track.... It can be the riders showing up the morning of and just expecting it... Most tracks have power... All tracks can run out of Power... If you can do yourself a favor... Get there early and claim it...

    At Barber, in the second level of the Paddock, there are power pedestals spaced about every two pits. Each box has (2) 14-50 RV or Range type outlet (120/240V 50A); (2) RV type (TT30) 30A 120V; and (2) 5-20 120V duplex receptacle. These are designed to feed each pit space.

    Charge for power is the same no matter which plug you utilize.

    The front wall of the hot pit has some type of twist-lock, (I'm reasonably sure its not NEMA compliant, but is one of Hubbell's specialty types) and when you pay for power, they provide an adapter. Also, even for the power pedestals on the middle paddock, they are dead until you pay for them, and then they are turned on at the distribution panel.

    I have detailed specs for Road America and Blackhawk as well, but I'm on the road this week and don't have access to my notes.

    The ones that you are referring to on the front wall by hot pit are actually NEMA 14-60 receptacles. That would be a 4 wire (2 120V legs,
    a neutral, and a ground) and they are rated at 60A. Those are the ones that I use to feed my enclosed trailer with a Square D breaker panel that is a 120/240V panel.

    This is great information. The only problem is that the guy who shows up to Tally 5 minutes before Trevor's meeting with 300 feet of #16 cord and wants to plug in with 5 other guys on a 15 amp outlet will never look at this post.

    Yep.... Always going to be Jokers out there... I never will forget that Idiot working on his 2 stroke 250 during one of Sheldons riders meeting there... Sheldon had a nice 1-1 conversation with him... Must have got to his head because he totaled his bike the first couple laps of the day... Bottom line is there will always be people like that... As we have said before we just cant control STUPID.....

    Let's see....300' of 16ga wire.....Voltage drop in that distance........yep he should be OK......if all he needs is 7.42 volts! :lmao:

    The same guy crashed in T1 comes back in the ambulance. What does he do "I'm fine" and jumps out of the back of the bus! He found out real quick he was wrong!!

    Quick note - Barber has changed out all the 240v / 60a plugs on the wall to 240v / 50a (ie: normal). They no longer use the breakout boxes that would convert the 240/60a into 6 120/20a circuits... but there is now also more 120v outlets on the wall as well.

    So if you're like me and have a 240/60 to 240/50 converter, you no longer need it.
