Suzuki Diagnostic Codes (and how to get rid of them)

    On an '06 Gixxer 600, I have an FI code alternating with the water temp. I short the diagnostics plug and get a C46 code which the shop manual says is the exhaust control valve actuator. In going thru the diagnostics it seems as though it is the actuator itself that is not working. Does anyone know how to eliminate it and get rid of the code or fool the ECM and just lock the valve open? It has the stock exhaust. I imagine there must be a way to do it when you switch to an aftermarket exhaust.

    Mike, I fixed my cousins 06 GSXR 750 with the same issue. First thing you have to check is that the exhaust flap is working and not sticking. Then i aligned the the valve control box like it should be in the off position by using 12 volts and cycling it until it was in its proper position. Then Disconnected the battery for a half an hour to reset the ecu. It has not had the problem since. But this was after I checked everything with my fluke meter to make sure every part was good. The Gsxrs are a bit fussy if the key is turned on and off quickly when the system doesnt get to work through its cycle. Ive seen it on two of them.

    I assume all GSXRs exhaust valve work the same.
    When operating correctly: when you turn the key ON the ECU will perform a complete cycle of the system. The servo motor will open the exhaust valve fully open, then fully closed, then go to a slightly open position.
    Check to make sure yours is operating correctly.

    The ECU monitors the system at the servo (and not the valve). So if you want to de-activate the valve (claimed to be worth a couple HPs at WOT).
    The easy way is just to disconnect the cables at the valve, the servo (and cables) will act as if everything is still connected. To do this turn the key ON and see the position (and direction) the pulley on the valve moves to when the valve is fully open, remove the cables at the valve pulley and tie them out of the way, turn the valve pulley to the full open position (if it does not go there by itself). The valve will stay in the full open position. Done

    You can also remove the servo and cables to save weight. Do the same as above then remove the servo and cables. You will also need to cut a wire going to the ECU (or pull the proper pin out of the connector). This wire is different by year and engine, so the simplest way to find out which wire (or pin) is to go to the Yoshimura web site and down load the installation instructions for a FULL exhaust system for your bike. It will have pictures to show you exactly which wire needs to disconnected. If you do not disconnect the wire you will always get a fault code. Done
