  1. Hey man no problem. Had a blast out there with you guys. You've definately got the entry speed down. As far as the tire seriously got with STG. Cheapest prices around and if you can't find someone to mount them for you locally and don't want to do it to yourself just bring them to the track early and they'll throw them on there in no time.

The weekend was great. I was Novice the first day and Intermediate the second.

I have to agree with everyone's take on the Intermediate class. It has a wide range of skill levels in it. A couple guys were riding some erratic lines.

On a good note, I got faster as the day progressed and finished up with a best lap of 1:57 the second day. I know that is still slow relative to the faster guys, but I'm getting there.

One suggestion I'd like to make in intermediate is more division among the groups. While riding in Novice, you had your groups which were pretty much a reflection of your speed. In Intermediate it was kind of unorganized on the grid.

I know everyone has a right to be on the track, but there were some guys parking it hardcore in the corners... which isn't a problem, but they shouldn't be up toward the front in my opinion. I know this is probably a subject touched on in the past, and is hard to police, but I just wanted to voice it in case others felt the same.

Also, thanks to all the instructors and Monte. He is a very approachable guy which is something I like.

    P.S.

Where are the photos ? :)

Thing about it is... we all started at the same level!

Nah I love the looks of the 599/919. It's a great bike. Have the suspension gone over by Dept. of Suspension during your next track day (at $50, it' WELL worth it) and that bike'll handle real well around the track.

It's really not very hard, but you'll need some stands, or at least a rear stand (can use jack stands for the front). Good luck finding a decent price outside of track prices though. Seems to me that some dealerships are kept afloat by their tire-change prices. Ideally, you have them mounted at the track, or can find a guy in his garage with a tire-mount machine who charges $10 & a 12-pack of Natty Light to mount 'em for ya'! :)

  4. Natty? Be wary of someone mounting tires for Natty's. Now some Gunniess and you know they know what there doing. :)

  6. You're welcome, that's what we're there for! Our new camera rigs make it nearly effortless to provide same day delivery of a video to you guys. Glad you enjoyed it, you were lookin' pretty good out there!

You're probably right and I am just being a lazy ass. I need to find that Natty guy... or even the Guiness guy! Is there an in-between Newcastle guy?

I made some calls, and most people's prices were ridiculous, but I did find a place called Sport Tour here in Cincy that has a pretty good rep, and they quoted me $114.95 for the front and $142.95 for the rear, and $39 per wheel to install, mount and balance with the rims delivered on the bike. That's the runaway best I've found locally. They might even be able to turn it around tomorrow - and if they can, I think that's the way to go. No fuss, just get it done and get back on the road!

Those prices were for Pilot Powers. I thought about 2CT's, but I need to keep in mind this is also my normal street bike and I need some longevity out of the tires and some level of rain grip. I bought the bike with Pilot Roads, which were okay (in my limited experience) so I am hoping the Powers give me a little more cornering grip without sacrificing too much tread life. I'd buy them from STG, but then you have to wait for shipping and all that. The prices are really good, but I'm not much for delayed gratification. And being 3 hours from the track, I don't know how much I'll be making around with my work schedule being how it is. It's definitely a good way to go, but getting it done locally is probably more practical for my (n00b) situation.

Geez, sorry.... didn't mean to ramble on and jack the thread.

Someone crashed in the last session? Bummer. I saw the one at the keyhole exit and heard about another one, but that was it.

Guessing you were the one on the yellow CBR? Didn't see the wreck just the bike after. Good to hear that you are somewhat ok, the bike looked bad.

    +1.

from the look of the bike, it looked like it was a lot worse.

  10. I wasn't directly behind you but close enough to see the dirt flying up in the air. From the talk in the paddock they said that the rear let loose and then caught causing the highside and yardsale that ensued.

Glad to hear you're only a little banged up cause from the looks of the bike, like everyone else says, could have been a heck of a lot worse.

  11. Heal up fast!!!

I was exiting the keyhole and saw a lot of dust from the T1 area. ...didn't see how it happened though. Glad you didn't get it any worse than that. I believe it was at the very end of the session, last session of the day.

Was it the blue and yellow CBR? If so, I came by just after you were stopped. Still dust in the air. I signaled for a RED flag up in the key hole as you weren't moving. Hope all is going to be OK. Collar bones heal a little more quickly the younger you are. I broke my left at age 27 and the right at age 39. Rattling your brain is by far the most serious. Hope to see you back soon!

A special thank's goes out to all the guys in garage #1, I had a blast and learned alot ( thanks #10). Awesome weekend guys! STT is the best, seriously.

I was on the orange and black sv650 with yellow number plates (ugliest bike there). As a first time track rider I found the information discussed in the "classroom" for the novice class to be invaluable. I was effortlessly dragging my knees within a few sessions. That was a big surprise. I never thought I would be doing that.

It's truly amazing at how fast the 40-ish minutes go by between sessions. I almost missed a few of them.

To all the instructors and fellow riders I met, I give a sincere thanks for helping me improve my skills and for all the great fun out there.

Thanks to the Department of Suspension for adjusting my bike for only 50 bucks. That really helped a lot!

I already want to get back on the track.

I still can't get the smile off my face! Craig, you were right on the money, yeah, I love this track! I'm scheduling some vacation time for the end of July so I can come back. Plus I want do a couple of those Twilight LED's. This sport is worse than crack!

It was a pleasure meeting you Craig, Jason and Sebastian. Next time I'll run with you guys in the I group, and I'll do my best to keep up!

I want to thank Tracy for having the confidence in the group to continually up the pace throughout the day. You made it seem smooth and effortless to get around the track, and that instilled a confidence in me.

Kirby it was a great pleasure to finally meet you and your husband Rick. And I would like to thank you again for your help.

CBR1K, heal fast, I would like to see you out there later this year..

And last but not least, I would like to thank Monte and Bonnie for putting on another spectacular event. Because of your efforts, I spend thousands of dollars on bike parts, trailers, and tires, and track days, and tires, and track days, and tires...and love every cent of it. Thank you so much.

For those of you going to Grattan next weekend, see ya there!!!

It was great to meet you also, can't wait to see you back at Mid-O. Jay and I will be there at the end of July, hope to see you then. If you make the jump to the I group we or any of the coaches would be more that happy to run you through the track. If you make it in July maybe I can talk you into letting me take you bike out :D . Just kidding, the bike is really nice.

Everyone lines up where ever they want to on the grid, in intermediate. It's not like novice and split into groups. Kirby just starts so many bikes at once to eliminate the congestion/confusion of 40 bikes starting at the same time. She does a wonderful job by the way.

Fast start in the front, slow start in the rear. We must police ourselves in that group.

Thanks for the info and well wishes everyone. I know the older you are the longer it takes for these old bones to heal! broke the right one at 45 ,now this one at 48....but hey, It will heal eventually and i'll be back out there sometime this summer. Frame, swingarm, forks, and motor seem to be ok on the bike, and i guess thats the most important and expensive stuff (wish i would have bought those beat up plastics on ebay now though!). stay safe and i'll see you all out there later this summer....Dave

Hey Dave, glad you're relatively okay! When I saw the bike brought up in pieces from the track I thought.... Heal up & get back out there.
