I'm doing Sat Intermediate at Putnam. Just finished swapping out my anti-freeze for water wetter and I'm concerned about the low temps (mid to high 20's for a low) on Fri and Sat. Do I need to worry about the coolant freezing? Other than running the motor occasionally, any recommendations? DO
was kind of wondering about the same thing. since the bike will be in the back of the truck and it will take me about 3 hrs to get there and the temp outside will probably be in mid 20's
It has to be below 32 degrees for a full 24 hours to freeze the water in your motor solid. If you are worried about it. Drain the water completely out of the motor and fill it back up at the track in the morning.
thanks Thanks Grasshopper. That's what I thought, but I didn't want to find out I was wrong with a cracked engine block.
Approved coolants - Freeze up protection From the STT site: Approved Poly Glycol brands are: Evans, 7th Gear, Liquid Performance, and Engine Ice. Engine Ice provides freeze-up protection to -27? F. (from their web site.)
High of 39 on Saturday. Its going to be colder than a well diggers ass blasting down the front straight at well over 100 mph. Bring your snowmobile suits kids, mount those grip warmers, activate those hot packs.
Freak Warm front hitting Putnum There is a slight chance of the weather being superb for the track. I am a beleiver of postive mental energy. But in case reality wins out, Monte please have the hot chocolate on. See you
Did you guys all live through the weekend? I looked at the weather on Saturday and actually felt sorry for you all.....it was snowing here in Kentucky. John
survived snowmobile track day at Putnam I don't know about others, but I survived Sat and actually had quite a bit of fun. The weather was brutal--esp. the wind--but I was surprised by how much grip my Pilot Powers provided in the cold. When I was able to keep feeling in my fingers, I was able to go quick enough to make the suffering worthwhile. DO
The Saturday high was the Sunday low. Amazing what a difference 10 extra degrees can make. All the clothing I could wear was just enough for Sunday. We had a freaking ball! By the afternoon a lot of us were starting to drag our knees, and there were at least a few friendly tussels in the I-A combined group session. 8)
Yeah I hope I wasnt to much of a mobile chicane for you fast boys :? . Did have a lot of fun though , glad I went. Even managed to scrape a knee on the lil fizzy . So once I get the rear spring weight corrected , I think thats going to be a fun little bike. Probably a set of Pilot Powers in its future to. See some of you @ MO , hears hoping the weather is a tad warmer. Though being Central OH you never know
Glad to hear you guys made the best of it and still had fun. I wussed out and didn't go. I hope the weather is warmer for MO too.
You did all right on the Fizzer. The only problem was closing speed. It's hard to concentrate when bigger, faster machines are screaming past, but you held your line and were predictable, which is more than many others can claim regardless of which bike they ride. So many of the bikes were so much faster than yours.... I remember once passing you just past start-finish, and I had to be going 70 mph faster than you were!
