I ordered the T-rex system. Again, I'd totally go with the pitbull if i could, as the guys I usually ride with all have them (and love them), but cost/benefit wise i think the trex will suit me fine. Thanks for the feedback fellas!
Ratchet straps have proven to not be kind to my suspension. Plus, the ease of loading is handy so i dont have to wait for any one to assist. I do wish i could afford your set up though!
How so?? Why would ratchet straps ruin your suspensions?? Unless you strap it down so tight that you're compressing the suspensions all the way, there shouldn't be a problem. I've used straps on a couple of different bikes for a few years with no issues. I typically ratcheted them enough to compress the forks about 2" and the shock about 1" at most.
Never damaged anything using ratching straps (I don't trust the friction ones) ever. As sbk1198 said, unless you are bottoming the suspension out it wont hurt a thing. Although I have seen some sketchy ways to ties bikes down but that's another story. Also you SHOULD be carrying at least 4-6 ratchet straps with you even if you use a strapless stand. There may be a time you will need them (ie crash where the bike is pretty much TOAST. You haven't lived until you've loaded a racebike on the crash truck trailer in 2 pieces. Done that about 4-5 times. Don't think any strapless stand that uses the rear wheel will be of use if the swingarm breaks off from a crash. Worse one was we spent 2 hours tossing pieces of the bike over a berm and into the guys pickup. Bike literally came apart.
Well, horror stories aside (sure hope that never happens to me!) i was cinching mine down too tight as evidenced by a fork leak last season and i take blame for that ,obviously. The leak was already starting before, but i certainly made it worse. I'd like to try something new, and something a little kinder to the bike. Of course, i always have 4 straps in my car for whatever. I also cant discount the appeal of being able to load the bike without rounding up someone close by, and -conversely- unloading the bike when i get home without trying to get someone to come by my house to assist.
Yep! Thankfully that's never happened to me, but now that I have the Pitbull TRS I still carry about 2-3 straps with me just in case. Before when all I was doing was using straps, I still carried an extra couple of straps with me in case one failed. And I did have one fail on my (the ratchet mechanism got bend and jammed somehow), so I was glad to have a spare with me.
That's one of the most important things for me, and ever since I got into doing track days I made sure that everything related to loading and unloading can be done by myself alone, with no help. Sure, at the track there are always people nice enough to lend a hand and that's fine, but I made sure to setup my trailer and transportation method in such way that I can do it all by myself. I don't want to have to rely on others.
Big price difference. $600 for the Zuma vs up to $4K for a grom. Both of which will probably be used at the track 95% of the time and on the street 5%. Plus I don't want another Honda.
Where do you find a Zuma for $600??? I've been looking around in the last couple of months and everyone is asking anywhere from $1500-$2500 for them, regardless of age and mileage!
Guy at work wanted to get rid of his. Hasnt rode it for a year. Needed tires, scrapes and scratches. Dropped about $150 into it to fix it up and vroom vroom down the street it goes. Found alot of missing bolts though. Thankfully yammie parts for,it are cheap.
