I am looking at a used '00 sv650 track bike, was raced in CCS for a couple of years and then the guy who has it now bought it in '04 and has been doing track days on it. My Question is, with these bikes being ridden hard at the track, do the engines need valves done or to be rebuilt very often? Also, I wouldnt be doing any of this myself, so is it expensive to have these things done (valve work, rebuilds etc...)? Thanks
In short, my 1999 Yamaha R1 has about 40,000 miles on it, estimated 6,000 track miles and didn't need to have the valves shimmed, still runs and shifts like day one. If it was maintained properly you shouldn't need to do anything big to it. Top level racers looking for every tenth of a horsepower rebuild engines on a regular basis because of the level of competition not necessarily for reliability.
