So this is my first track day at Mid Ohio and I am looking at rain accross the whole midwest potentially on Monday June 30th. Can someone tell me how the rain policy works with STT? Do we ride in the rain? Also, as a Newbie to track days how much more of a challenge is it to ride in wet conditions. Any quick pointers appreciated. Hoping it stays dry because that track looks like a ball and I have a buddy trailering his duc 999 from baltimore to join me.
We ride rain or shine. Riding in the wet requires you to be SMOOTH. You can actually learn a lot in the rain. Rain requires you to really focus and do thing precisely, whereas you may be able to get away with some "sloppy" riding in the dry. Mid-Ohio is a blast to ride, and you should have a good time regardless of weather. Click here for more details on STT Rain policy <--- read last paragraph of "Payments & Refunds" section
what tires do you suggest for learning to go smooth in rain? That wet stuff scares me but I want to learn!!!!
Well if you have a spare set of rims and can afford 'em, go with full rain tires. They are amazing. Short of those, the Pilot Power is a great tire for wet conditions. STT offers killer deals on the Michelin tires as well.
I would imagine the Pliot Powers tire pressure would be similar, if not I'm sure a coach will correct accordingly. I personally have not been on the track in wet conditions, but these are the guideline I will use. I hope this helps.
I just checked the forecast for Monday. It is showing 30% chance of thunderstorms. But I think it has changed everyday this week. I live about an hour or so from the track and around here most of the time if it's 30% or less it normally never rains. But remeber this is Ohio, if you don't like the weather wait five minutes and it will change. I am also going to be in the novice class and this will be my first time to the track so I am praying for the sun. Plus I don't have anything to put over my leathers.
My last two track days with STT was at Nashville and BeaveRun. It rained half the day at Nashville and ALL Day at BeaveRun. I never sat out one session. Rain is a bummer but what can you do? You're not going to get your money back so you have to go with it. One good point made above is it does force you to be smooth. I have Pirelli Corsa III's and they were excellent in the rain. Another good thing (if there is such a thing) about rain riding is you're not smoking your tires...
hey brian if those rains r still available ill take them can i pay u on monday at the track. Thanks Mike
so for those of us who had to work today because we used up all our vacation days too early (fiscal year ends today), how was the weather??
