Greetings all, I'll be starting my new job at WPAFB on the 16th, and looking forward to the change. Right now I'm smack dab in the middle of VIR and Summit Point. It's nice to know that Mid-O and Bluegrass will be just as accessable as my previous "home" tracks! I would like to get your recommendations for a local mechanic/shop that KNOWS how to work with bikes (and trackday/race bikes specifically). I'm not saying that dealerships are unreliable, per se, but I've found that the tuners/mechanics that work for themselves really know their stuff and are willing to go that extra mile for a fellow racer/trackday'er. Nor will they charge you 80 bucks to do a simple tire change! Also, I need a house! Let me know if you know of a good one with ~5 acres or so! Thanks everyone, I can't wait to get there! --Justin
First off, WELCOME to the midwest territory! We look forward to seeing you out! Unfortunately, we (STT) dont do trackdays at MO anymore, but there are MANY great tracks w/ in a few hours of Dayton. You mentioned Bluegrass, but dont rule out Putman Park, Grattan, Gingerman, AutoBahn and BeaveRun!! They may not be local to you, but check out shops like 35motorsports, and others listed in the other sections of this site! Good luck on the house search and we'll see you next spring!
Yes I reccommend checking out 35 Motorsports also. He is located in Indy so it is not too far away. check out his website, http://www.35motorsports.com
No more STT days at Mid-Ohio? What happened there? Last time I looked at the 2009 sched, it seemed like there were a lot. Which org will run the monopoly on mid-o now? (if any) sorry if i'm bringing up a sore subject. Thanks for the welcome guys!
I'm in Dayton, and let me tell you, it's a black hole for roadrace shops. There's Brock's Performance down in Beavercreek, but he deals almost exclusively in big-bore drag bikes. Not much use to us. I've heard great things about the aforementioned 35 Motorsports, and I can personally vouch for IndyDucati (for suspension work) and Schnitz Racing (in Decatur) for tuning. I do everything else myself, so if you're needing a hand, drop me a line and I'd be happy to help. What will you be doing at WPAFB? I'm a stone's throw from there, but work out at the Guard base at Springfield.
Use to live in Dayton (nice place) and grew up in Indpls. It is not close. Sounds like you may be out of luck. Try Hord Power in Bucyrus, OH, still not close, but a racer with plenty of experience and a dyno.
Yeah, it's about a 3 hour haul each way to Indy, but for the few times a year I might have to have something done to the bike, it's worth it. Plus, I got to Putnam with some regularity anyway, so I can always make it part of the trip...
+1 for 35 motorsports and Indy Ducati... At one point Rueben at 35 motorsports worked at Indy Ducati... Both have great great mechanics who know thier shit, race themselves, and do many trackdays!
much appreciated guys. i've had several emails back and forth with Ruben since your recommendation. he seems to know his stuff and is up front with his prices. i've got a lot of stuff for him to do-- just need to find the time to get the bike there!
Were in cincy if u ever want to meet up and go to diff tracks! We will be travelling ALLOT in 2010 and we always have room for 1 more. Aslo if u street ride at all there are some of the best roads around just south f the river in northern ky.
^ when he says "we," he means all the Assfault junkies; he's not schizophrenic ...as far as I know anyway.
