Hi guys, I've got a quick question about something I saw in the 5/4-5 Grattan WERA weekend schedule.

    http://maps.wera.com/pdfs/2008Schedules/grattan050513.pdf

They list under Practice, at line item 7, "Riders School".
They also list under the actual racing at line item 10, "Riders School Mock Race (4 laps)".

I guess my question is what exactly is this Riders School thing? It must be separate from the Pro School on Friday, but I will still get a WERA license through this right?

I'm a bit too late on the May pro school weekend with STT, the slot I would have purchased is sold out. But I'm thinking this might be a fun way to start racing with WERA. Then on Sunday I could do an event or two possibly.

If anybody has insight on the Rider School I would love to hear it, sounds like fun to me.

I thought you had a SOAR race license? WERA recognizes most other race orgs licenses in which case you wouldn't have to do a school at all.

First the STT pro day on Fri and the WERA races on Sat and Sun are totally separate. The STT pro school is recognized buy WERA and WERA will sell you a race license after you take it. If not then you have to take the WERA riders school to get your license.

The STT day will teach you flags and starting procedures as well as helping you get faster on the track with one on one coaching. I've taken it, highly recommended.

The WERA riders school is more focused on flags and starting procedures etc. The mock race is exactly that, a race that doesn't count for anything. It's just to see if you can manage a race start and 4 laps without screwing things up or crashing. DON'T CRASH:crutch: in the mock race or you don't get your license and can't race on Sunday.

BTW that is a link to last years 2013 Wera race at Grattan. This years hasn't been posted yet.:boink:

    hahaaa! Nice catch
I clicked on the link for the Grattan race under the 2014 schedule, wonder why they have it linked to this 2013 pdf..

Very cool, I do have a novice license with SOAR. Will be nice if they accept it, I guess I'll have to email them and see. My biggest unknowns are the starting procedure, qualifying, timing/rfid, and flag system they use. SOAR has lights, but from what I've seen it looks like WERA does a countdown with a flag and rotating sign. I would just feel a bit more comfortable having a little bit of instruction on how WERA handles things.

    Thanks for the info!

Chris, WERA only qualifies 600 expert at National events. everything else is based off of points.

Ahh, I did not know that. It probably saves the much needed time.
This is why I think I'll just do the school anyways hah
