So, the new boots should be in today. My first real pair of proper "race" style boots.
I don't know why but it actually woke me up early this morning. Excited to get on with the day so they would hurry up and get here.
Over my morning pastry, i starting wondering what kind of socks does everyone wear at the track?

One may assume just the regular old pair of socks, but i know i have some "performance" style socks that are actually really nice (from Adidas) and worth the extra few bucks. Then there is also a wide range of "specific" socks from AStars and the like. Anyone wear those? They seem a bit steep price wise.

Are they worth it? Big difference?
$20 seems like an awful lot for 1 pair of socks.
Then again, i've noticed that if your feet are comfy, the rest of you usually is as well.

I've alway worn normal socks that I wear every other day, whats far more important is a layer of underarmour heat gear under the leathers.

True. Or my fav, the RS Taichi if you can afford it.
I wear shorty socks like I wear when I run. I have several of the Astars long technical boot socks and others as well (Klim) and always found them to be hot and uncomfortable. I save those for off road boots.
    YMMV and all that.

Argyle, striped, or polka dot knee socks.

These are paired with capri length yoga tights and a long sleeve wicking top. I don't like it when leathers touch my skin for some reason, although I do sometimes wear a short sleeved top.

I have exactly one pair of "performance motorcycle socks" that are actually too thick for my current pair of boots and are a bit too warm. If I have to do a lot of running around in my boots all day (like at a track day) I've found having a decent insole in the boot is way more important than the type of socks.

I wear wool hiking socks. Good padding and good moisture wicking. Or I wear thin Helly Hansen skiing socks. Basically, something that wicks away moisture. I also started wearing under armor type shirts, and this year I have compression type pants and shorts I will be sporting. Makes getting in and out of leathers much easier.

I prefer knee socks so the alpinestars road racing socks work great.

I don't wear my "normal" socks which are cotton - in my boots, they make my feet sweat. So, I opt to wear cheap $2 "trouser" socks from Walmart that goes to my calves. I definitely like the soft thin material they are made out of too, which is similar to under armour, and it keeps my feet cool. Not to mention the cash that stays in my pocket from not spending $20 a pair :D

    WOOHOO! Boots just got here.

    Wicked fast shipping (Thanks STG!)

They are pretty nice. I hadn't considered an insole for the boots.
I do know that my "adidas" performance socks are actually quite nice and certainly better than regular cotton socks. So i thought maybe the motorcycle specific socks might have some extra feature. If they don't, i cant see spending $20 on a pair. I guess i'll just wear the adidas socks.

    $20 Socks

I think you guys are fixated on the $20 for a pair of socks.... YOU are not supposed to buy the $20 pair of socks. Your son, daughter, wife, mom, and whomever else wants to give you a birthday and/or a Christmas gift, is supposed to get you the $20 pair of socks. Use you heads guys.. Really, some one WANTS to give you a pair of $20 socks.

I've worn tube socks, and hiking socks, and others, but none come close to wearing $20 Alpinstar roadracing socks. Treat yourself someday. You'll like it.

I like compression socks. But I agree. Just go to walmart and get some socks that aren't cotton.
