That was my best friend. I was there with him. He is fine.

He rode the next day. He was the one who Mark was refering to as being "combatitive" with the EMS.. LOL. He had a mild concusion, was a bit confused for an hour or so. He snapped out of it and was fine. Bike did not even need any repair to ride.

Thanks for posting the video, I'm sure he will appreciate it.

It would be nice if someone got video of me lowsiding in A just before lunch on Saturday on T5. I know exactly what happened but it would be cool to see it.

Glad he is doing fine. My friend highsided just after that point now has 3 broken ribs, cracked vertebrae and a bruised/collapsed lung. He is back home and doing okay too.
I wish I had that one recorded too.

    Two different riders.
My friend wrecked the session before and the video shows another rider in the session afterwards.

That was me!! thats too cool that you got that on tape!

I dont really remember any of it. All I know is that I was hauling ass around the track, passed someone on the drive coming out of turn 5, which must have been you, then the next thing I know Im sitting in the back of an ambulance in the pitts having a conversation with some medics about what day is it and who was the president. and a splitting headache.

I do have a vague dream like memory of some tire screeching, the bike getting squirly, and me thinking Im not going to make this turn. but it really is all kinda like when you wake up and try to remember the dream you had.

after getting back on the track, the next day, and seeing the slide marks for myself, stuff starting clicking again and I think I was able to piece together what happened.
Normally I hit 4th gear right before the braking zone at the end of the straight, brake and drop a gear to 3rd, turn in, stand up for the curb, drop a gear again into 2nd, then turn in again. I must have either never grabbed 4th gear, or missed 2nd, either way I think I ended up in first gear, which locked the rear, and before I could recover I was slammed head first into the ground and knocked out.

I dont remember lying in the gravel, I dont remember waking up, I dont remember being combative, I dont remember taking my helmet off, leathers, nothing.

I did manage to trim another 5 seconds off my lap time the next day though :D

sorry to hear about your friend that got banged up so bad. was he riding the triumph with the ohlins rear shocks that was laying in the middle of that turn earlier that day?

    That was him.

I was late coming onto the track because I was on the phone with his wife, explaining what had happened. I was taking it slow warming up tires and all being passed all over the place when you came by. It is not clear on the youtube video but you went off the left side of the concrete bump and flipped up a bunch of grass and dirt and it looked like the bike never settled in. Probably that is where you dropped the other gear in all the bouncing. I am glad you are okay. I thought you were dead. You were knocked out right away as I went by.
I guess I will see you in October!

    Man,
Sorry to hear about that. I hate to hear when someone gets seriously injured out there. I've been very fortunate so far.

It was a great weekend, but there was a lot of crashes even in Advanced class. Seemed like a lot of Ducs went down. My friend Matt crashed his new 848 right before the kink in back. Hit someone who had stalled or something but both were lucky it wasn't worse.

You sure you did not tuck the front? Look at the bike angle when he comes by. To me it looks like the bike is in line rather than the back swung around. Hard to tell, might be more obvious in the original video quality.

    Glad you are OK

we were wondering about that one, since the guy he hit was slowed down with his hand in the air to the far outside of the track out of the racing line half way down the straight. Not sure how he hit him. I was behind it.

I've seen the hi res version, he lost the rear end. he hit 1st by accident and locked up the rear. You can see the skid mark in the video too.

Im not sure of anything, I really dont remember what happened, except, like I said, a vague memory the back of the bike sliding. I cant imagine why I would have tucked the front, Im not on the brakes that hard in that spot.
plus, Richard, the guy that caught it on video, said he thought he saw some grass and dust like I went off the other side of the curb and maybe the bouncing cuased me to hit the shift lever down into first.

whichever, if I click thru the frames on the high res, there is a long straight skid, then nothing, then a big long "S" skid, then when the skid goes to the left you can see where the rearset hit the ground, so I still think I locked it by hitting first.

There was a guy in front of him blocking his view. All of the sudden the guy in front of him took evasive action but by then he couldn't move enough out of the way and bam, it was over. He said it was about an 80 MPH impact. Could have been a lot worse.

I was in A Saturday and didn't see the crash, but kept seeing the skid marks the rest of the day, wondering what the heck happened. I couldn't figure out how you crashed in that spot.....usually folks crash a little further into the right hander at the bottom of the hill.

If your front end isn't settled there it can get ugly quick. I don't hit the curbing for that reason. I tried once and was all over the place. I go just right of it.

I know right, I love to hit the concrete curb with my VFR but I cant seem to feel good about it on the superhawk, im sure the setup and weight of the two have something to do with it but dang i dont like the concrete on the supahawk

Heck i love jumping the curb on the left side on the SuperMoto, plenty of suspension and i can pass the slower Sportbikes trying to get setup for the right hander part of the coaster.
