My first question would be, why are you looking for a new chain? If you're chain is bad. Replace it. But not with a used one. Chains and sprockets are consumables. They wear out. If you need a chain, then replace it and any aluminum sprockets you have on the bike. I run a steel front sprocket and aluminum rear. I typically change the chain and rear sprocket every season, but my bikes tend to accumulate a lot of track miles each year. In addition, you'll want to know the size of the chain you're looking for. 520, 525, etc. You'll also need a new rivet master link (I never use a clip link on a 600 inline 4 or bigger bike) and a chain tool to assemble it all.
, Hello Gkotlin thank you for your input, Im deciding on what gearing i like best, i had stock gearing for some time, went +2 on the rear to try it but my chain is too tight and i havent had a chance to ride hard and see if i like ( got 2 new rear sprockets so decided to try it), once if i decide i like it i would install the whole set new
You can buy a front sprocket, they're pretty cheap. Cheaper then a new chain. Going -1 in front is about the same as +3 in the rear. But since it's a smaller change, and a smaller sprocket, the chain length difference is minimal and you can likely use the same chain you have now.
Let me know if you're interested. I can work a bit on the price. http://miami.craigslist.org/brw/mpo/5285178204.html
