So, I read the forums here a good bit. I have seen stuff on tire heat cycles, this that and the other, but have never seen the subject of tire "cold cycles" (for lack of a better term). What I mean is, I have 2cts that were new last year, with just 3 track days on them (I ride an SV650, so they're like, 85-90% still). Do I want to consider a fresh set for this season since they sat in my UNheated garage all winter? Does cold affect the reliability of the grip on the only two things connecting my bike to the track? Thanks very much in advance.
All my tires (street and track) are stored in a unheated garage and it gets single digits in Indiana. I have never had a problem with any of my tires after the winter but I have seen pictures of someones cracked Pirelli tires after being left out in the cold (prolly single or neg. digits).
3 days on 2cts o na sv - run them till they either crack...get greasy beyond recovery...or the wear bars = your tread....
note: Never take tire advice from a guy who runs ties as long as Craig does! All joking aside, you shouldn't see that much degradation in performance from a single winter on tires that fresh. I was in the same situation and just used my tires for two days at Grattan and can't say I saw much of a compromise. If anything maybe the absolute limit of the tires came down a percentage point or two, butwho am I to judge?! -Tom
Well Tom, you were really derned fast when I rode with you 7/27 last year @ that track located in the middle of Ohio that won't be named in this forum, so I'll take your advice and run with it. Thanks to all of you that replied, I think we reached a consensus. I appreciate it very much!
Any time tires fall below ummmmm 60 degress or go above.... say.... 85.. ya, that's it.. 85.. they should be replaced ASAP! Your 2CT's are fine... ride em!
Hey Tom what are you going to do with that rear you took off I think I can get 6 or 7 more days out of it.
