Looking for general tips and tricks to setting up a pit. bringing a canopy and a solid chair for the gf i am checking in first thing at 7 am and just want to make sure i am as prepared as possible Thanks
A good tire pressure gauge and pump/compressor. If you have a generator("quiet" inverter style), bring it. Maybe even rent one, it's a huge convenience to have one if you can't plug into a power source. A fan or two depending on the temps, I didn't use one last weekend at Barber, though. A small table, cooler, some common tools, extra gas, extra gear and parts if you have them and your enthusiasm. You're going to have a blast.
tire gauge check, pump i will borrow from a buddy might have to just power stuff off my truck if need be. all other things are on my list. o my positive attitude be in full swing! my buddy also told me that grattan lets you set up the night before so going to do that. teps only in low 60s and 50s lol i am so pumped and just trying to be as prepared as possible
:thumb:Setting up the night before is the favored choice. I just use a bicycle pump for the air, tire gauge is a must. Set of tools to wrench with, I also include thread lock - blue & red -, gasket maker, duct tape....search this site for a track day check list for a decent list. Have fun at Grattan! :thumb:
24 pack of water per riding person Since it's going to be a little bit chilly don't forget about neck warmers - $10 at Cycle Gear
I wouldn't worry to much about what to take for the first track day. The must is your gear, motorcycle and a key to start it. Make sure you have enough gas and have some extra. A canopy and chairs is a good thing to have. The rest you can borrow if you need. Most of the riders are very friendly and will be more than happy to give you a hand. Concentrate on your riding and having fun ... You will quickly learn what you need for the next time. My list grows all the time ... PS. Good point Aniolpl, water is a must
This... check twice. Trust me. The grattan crew is great. Plenty of staffers will be there friday night. Bring some cold beers and make a friend. Pretty much whatever you need and don't have, you will be able to borrow. ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS!!!!! We are here to help, but we can't help if we don't know!
^This Bring a chair for everyone in your car and an EZ-UP if you have one. A cooler with some water is quite advisable as well. Other than that I'd just use this track day as a learning experience; make a note of all the stuff you have to borrow and if you decide track days are for you then you can start working on building your track kit. I've been doing this for a few years and I still change up what I bring as I try to whittle down the tools and other stuff I bring with me.
What day you going brother? I'm strongly considering buying in for Saturday or Sunday, but I'm watching the weather first.
Wife and I plan to set up Friday blue Chevy truck and blue 6x12 trailer. Normally upper paddock. Bring cash for gate and conssions. White Daytona black and blue zx10r If ya need anything stop up I will be riding advanced sat she will be in novice sun
I rode my bike to my first trackday with a roll of painter's tape in my pocket, (I wouldn't recommend it):jester:
If you have a "loud generator" like me just bring very long extension cords and place it in no mans land away from the pits then offer for your neighbors to be able to plug in.....keeps everyone happy
thanks everyone! i will be in the saturday session. look for a silver f150 and a red sv650s. i will be unloading friday night so i will talk to some people and see whats shaking. no generator but i had a yz450f this summer for about a month and did some motocross so def case of water! thats my biggest thing lol cant appreciate the helpful tips and tricks, i am going in with a huge learning mindset. i am thankful to have a girlfriend that wants to take it all in first hand too and be my pit buddy lol i really want to improve my skills and experience all the track day has to offer. i have full leathers, under-armor a good choice for underneath in 50 degree weather?
look for a silver f150 and i will look for you. all tinted out. 2014. red sv in the bed. if i see you i will stop by or even pit near you if thats cool? i have a hotel in greenville and should be there by 6-7 to unload.
The no man's land is the crucial part. I've been a track days where people place them far away from them... But right next to some other people. They were getting the passive looks of disapproval all weekend.
And by using a long cord to get it out of there pits they up the load due to line drop. Meaning the rattle and bang machine they moved by the neighbors is even more obnoxious :rawk:
