    Aff

when I did the AFF course, it was a commitment for the first 3 jumps.
it wasn't cheap. it includes fairly serious classes before each jump.
there are 2 divemasters w/you for the first 2 I think, thus the $$$$$. this was years ago; I'm sure Keith has more current info.

and it's TOTALLY different than a tandem.

AFF is a lot more involved (and expensive) than a tandem. Days of training (body position, how a parachute works, emergency proceedures, flaring and landing) before you EVER get NEAR the aircraft (because the instructors - 2 each - are ONLY going to be holding onto you - and that's alot different than being hooked up). Drop zones wouldn't be able to stay in business very long if they just let someone walk up and jump out (dead people not good for publicity or business).

A tandem is relatively easy. A video; about 10 minutes or less training, and off you go for about $200 (a few more to include video - and you'll want the video as proof - talk about talking shait on saturday night at the track!). You are basically a passenger; you can certainly effect the flight, but the instructor is there to save your (and his) life. I always tell anyone that asks - make a tandem and see if you like it before you invest a ton of time and money in AFF.

There are about 3 different types of people I see upon landing:

    1. I'll never do that again (10% totally hate it can't control their fear)
    2. HOLY COW THAT WAS THE MOST AWESOME THING I EVER DID - and maybe, SOMEDAY, I'll do it again" (about 70%) - and then they think about it but never follow thru.
    3. The light bulb goes on and Angels sing (about 30%) who decide on the spot that they can't live without mastering it and have to do it again (and again and again) because they get hooked on the rush. Every jump is different, it never gets old. You instructors know the look - at the track after a guys first trackday and he's REALLY STOKED...

I promise, you'll be too scared to think about how gay it looks :)

Sorry for the thread jack. I'm a lot better at jumping out of an airplane than I am riding on the racetrack..

You know it's funny you say that. Some of my sisters friends from down your direction ask me why I'd hang off a motorcycle with a perfectly good seat. :D

You know, when I was in my 20's and 30's, I always thought of how cool it would be to try parachuting. As I've gotten a bit (OK, maybe a LOT older), I'm not so inclined to try that anymore. I figure that I was fortunate enough to make it through my "youth" and all the stupid things that I did and tried, so I'm not pushing it anymore. Hell, I've been a Journeyman Electrician for 31 years and anymore, I change flashlight batteries with a pair of gloves on!!! :lmao:

I've got to tell you Vern, that your odds of getting hurt on that bike zipping around the track are higher than skydiving - but the 'hurt' is probably a little more surviveable :)

Little Tally is a riot! Certainly a track that requires technical skills to get the full effect....

Total chaos on a GP125 bike hehehehe

Glad you had a great time. It was very hot, but survivable if you hydrate sufficiently. I must have drank 12 bottles of water today and a couple of Gator-Aid drinks.

Thanks to everyone at STT for great day Saturday with lots of track time! :thumb:

I think there were only 5 riders in the "A" group so we had plenty of clear track. I guess the heat kept a few riders from attending.
