Road ATL back straight top speed?

Ok, I was at Road Atlanta on my 1000cc and was seeing 149+ mph and that was in "B/N" group! What is some "top speeds" that you have reached at Road Atlanta?

 

As they say, "anyone can go fast in a straight line" who even looks at the speedo on the track.

What were your lap times?

 

my top speed is as fast as my 600 will go for as long as i can. :bounce:

but seriously, speedos can be off by large amounts so i wouldnt count on that for a reference. especially if you have any sort of gearing change. best way to figure top speed is to get a gps of some sort and check top speed after.

 

My lap times: 1st time on the 1000cc this year and first time EVER at Road ATL was Avg-2min 4sec with a 1:59 Max.

 

Also, anyone with a GoPro looks at the speedo when your GoPro is on the tank cover! Camera picks it up in HD.

 

The back straight at Road Atlanta isnt a straight line, Just kidding.

If you keep it pinned through the kink before 10 you it should top out at and indicated 186 for a moment.

 

If you have time to look at your Speedo your not going fast enough.... As others said.. Top speed in a straight line means nothing... Keeping it pinned to the second brake marker there on a 1000... now thats another thing.....

Mine.has said 185

 

As I recall the AMA superbike were getting up to about 180 ish and the 600 fx bikes close to 160. So if you guys can run 185 at Road ATL you need to bump up to AMA

Herrin had the fastest trap speed this year of 182mph

 

I have a speedo-drd on my 06 ZX-10 and calibrated it with GPS up to 100mph so I think it's fairly accurate although maybe still not perfect at max speed, and I was getting to 165 a bit before the brake markers and had run out of gearing, wasn't spending much time then looking at the speedo but I was pretty much redlining it. I brake about 2-3 bike lengths before the 2nd braking marker. With better gearing, I probably could have squeaked out another couple MPH. I brake early though...and got 2nd place in the first race because of it and almost lost my second race because of it too.

1:41 lap times running -1/+1 gearing. Enough in WERA to win 2nd place in Novice A Superstock and 1st place in Novice Formula 1...although not that spectacular...it was my first and only trip to Road Atlanta.

 

My GPS said 131 on my GSX-R600 with a 15 front sprocket. I think the speedo was reading somewhere around 160. According to http://www.gearingcommander.com the speedo is still off by 8 to 9 percent with stock gearing. And I was thinking I was a real badass hauling down the back straight! :wtf:

 

A lot of us think we're going a lot faster than we are!.....lol

It's fast enough that the guys on liter bikes need to pay very close attention to closing speeds between you and the 600cc bikes!

 

No joke! With the throttle pinned they are still blowing by me.
