I laughed my ass off when I was drawing that up:jester: Even funnier is that most people will think it's an exaggeration but those of us who have ridden the track know it's not to far from the truth.
This is how our intermediate session ended right after lunch break You can't see that on video but the bike went 4-5 feet into the air after it hit the grass.
There were quite a few people taking pictures...however I couldn't find them when my group ended. Anyone know how to get their contact information/website/place of posted pictures?
Hefron- Thanks for posting that video! I was working with a customer ahead of you on track when he lost his front fender over the jump... You can see the debris all over the track in your video! This was the cause for the red flag. The rider who falls is obviously getting a good run on the group in front coming up the hill when the rider in front of him chopped the throttle. This is a reminder for everyone of why we have procedures on track. Throw up that hand to acknowledge the flag and alert those behind you. DO NOT chop the throttle! Too bad for that pock mark on an otherwise fantastic weekend... The track really came in and by Sunday afternoon people were flying! -Tom
The guy who crashed was with me. I was on the gray and black bike in this video. I have a video shooting backwards that I will try and post up later today. It shows the bike flipping.
That's too bad of a crash! Question did u happen to have our can running in the 3rd session Saturday right before lunch? I remember passing you (well I thought it was you) and having a giant slide right after it going thru the sweeper towards the bus stop. I high sided and landed on my windshield. Not sure how I was able to stay on the bike. Must have been dump luck. lol It would be cool to see what really happened. Thanks!
Tom - really appreciate the account of how it all went down. All I remembered was setting up for the outside pass, then a bike moving onto my line and accelerating towards me. Tried to slow it down so we both didn't crash. Hefron - thanks for the vid! and for not running over me! Ended up being a broken left collarbone & a trashed helmet. Bike looks ok, fixable. Piece of the subframe flew up and punctured my helmet, I'll post pics and xrays later. All part of the game! :thumb:
PLEASE do not do that again. This is a good lesson to everyone why that rule exists. That being said it might have been safer to wait and late brake you into 1...need to work on my patience lol
I don't think I'm the one you had the incident with. On sunday a red flag came out (2nd session?) and I chopped throttle too fast coming on to the straight and IL8APEX almost ass packed me. My fault completely. Made it a point to not have any repeats of that. Hope you're alright though!
Sorry my bad! Guess I assumed there couldn't be 2 incidents THAT similar in the same weekend. I've made my share of rookie mistakes like that. Only way to prevent them is through good mentoring.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too! I got a little wound up at BUNKE because of your incident. Turned it into a positive, though, and your vid helped drive the lesson home. See how we all prosper when we stick together? :grouphug: -T
First of all, I'm glad you didn't get hurt worse & nobody else got hurt in the process. That being said, you shouldn't have been setting up for a pass when there's a red flag in that turn. Yes, he should have put a hand up or a foot out before slowing down, but making it a habit to look at every corner worker every lap could have made the whole incident avoidable.
I just like to wrap up the 3 day weekend. I had a great time on Friday at Gingerman. Very easy going event, great people and lots of fun! Hard to beat for the money! The weekend at Grattan was even better. I didn't ride that much in a long time! Met a lot of fun people to hang out with and just had a great time. Thanks to all of you looking out for me after my lil hiccup. Luckily I didn't go down. Thanks to all the I group instructors for pulling me around the track. I learned a lot every time i got a tow and I had a lot of fun following. All in all a great weekend. Will be back in August!
