Signed up but had some questions about the facility. I will be showing up Friday evening and assume it is possible to camp? I also saw some videos where it looked like they had electricity available in the pits. Whats the info on that? I plan on sleeping in my enclosed trailer but might be dragging along a couple buddies. Are there any close spots near the pits to set up a tent or two? This is all I can think of right now thanks for your time.
I setup a tent last year next to my canopy at Barber, no one complained. There is a designated camping area but I just assumed stay next to all of my stuff. Things seem to like to go missing sometimes... FYI, It's costs money to get in, camp, and for electricity. I think it was $90 for me and my wife for everything (admission, camping, and electricity) for 2 days.
I have never had a single thing go missing at a STT event , and that includes a weekend that i showed up on a fri and set up , then got a call that my grandson was being born, I left everything out and open and unattended from fri night till sun morning at CMP and never worried for a min. I have noticed other groups that seem to lock up their stuff just for going out for a session, For the most part ,After 6years of doing days with STT ,I have never heard of anybody having something "go missing". With that said, Barber has a tent camping area up the hill from the paddock area,I have slept in the paddock area only because i enjoy the comraderie of my STT family off the track as much as i do on the track.
Camping area is good if you like peace and quite at night. I sleep in the paddock area. I have slept under my ez up and set up a tent next to my ez up and they never said anything.
Well now you have. I had a gas can go missing at Nashville last year. I had a post up on here in the hopes someone had picked it up and realized it, but I know not everyone looks through these forums. I unfortunately didn't realize it till I got home and un-packed (I just packed everything up that was in my spot so the can was no longer in my spot apparently). I'll be nice and guess it was accidentally grabbed since it looks like every other red gas can out there, but none the less I am one gas can short now and $20 in gas is gone as well. Not the end of the world, it's a small amount of money and it prompted me to buy a much better gas can, but it has removed my trust because if something like my bike or leathers were taken, that would hurt much more. I don't blame it on your organization either, and don't think I'm trying to say there is a bunch of thieves either. But there are a lot of people there, lots of strangers. It was my own fault anyways, I should have done a better job of keeping my stuff locked up and inventoried it regularly so I could know exactly when it went missing. Live and learn I suppose.
Barber is a great place. I have never had any problems there. We usually set everything up the night before and then leave for the hotel. They do have a security guard that goes around all night long. Plus they have cameras everywhere.
I've always felt that my property was no safer than at a motorsports event. In 5 years of SCCA Solo II I know personally of only one case of outright theft. I think I would feel similarly secure at STT events. Plus, I'm guessing anyone caught stealing would be issued a stern talking-to... with assistance from a blunt object to drive the point home...
My bike was stolen at barber...then vandalized in the middle of the night at barber last year! There is still a $75,000 reward for information
I'd love to help in your investigation, alas, I did. not see anything! In any case, all staffers know that staff bikes are fair game.... t
I have always felt safe leaving most of my stuff at the track overnight. That said, I never leave my generator or any of my riding gear.

Could be 20 or 80. March is a pretty crazy month for weather in the SE, but this winter has been pretty mild. http://www.weatherbyday.com/alabama/birmingham/march-birmingham-weather.html
