The superbike article is fantastic, although i am disappointed at finding the 'whack the throttle' myth to be a myth. it makes more sense.
it's a tool that might help you be a little smoother (within parameters of course).

it's like this discussion about suspension.

'you don't need ohlins until u r up to pace'
'true, but it makes life a little easier even if you are slow'

I could find all my references and you'd see that Casey does open the throttle wide open very soon (around the apex) and I don't see any references above just someone saying they have references just like me; but, I don't need to prove my point to anyone. Casey says its about trusting the motorcycle to make it through the turns. They don't like the TC because they prefer the old way of racing, loose. They know it helps lap time, even them, but they would like to see it outlawed to make the racing more enjoyable for themselves. That's why Nicky liked the 990 more than the 800.

In one of Casey's interviews he mentions that with the TC the motorcycle is plowing through the turn because it won't let the rear step out. That's why Casey had three front end crashes in '08, to make lap time its about pushing the front to its limit and this is a difficult thing to do. Watch a review of Valetino at Indy, around lap 15 he loses the front, saves it and then runs up on the white paint and the rear fish tails, only then do the commentators notice that something happened. They missed him locking up the front and not crashing. That's what makes Valentino so good. Even Colin said this when they were team mates two years ago. Colin was talking about practice in the rain one day and nearly soiling his shorts when locked up the front. He goes and asks Vale, did you lose the front here or there. Vale, "Yes, I have little problem with front." Colin then says he looks at Rossi's data and he has the front locked and crossed up everywhere, every lap, in the rain. Then Colin crosses his hands like he's holding the handlebars goind "screeeeetch, screeetch."

Pay attention throughout the year and you'll find there is a little bit of information here, a little bit more there and some more somewhere else. Pay attention, you'll see. You'll occasionally see Nicky refer to how early Casey has the throttle wide open. As the Dunlop ad says, "Trust your tires."

P.S. One or more of Spies interviews about the MotoGP bike he mentions seeing Loris Capirossi's data and being amazed at how early in the turn he has the throttle wide open. He also says the TC and other computer rider aids are worlds apart between AMA Superbike, WSBK and MotoGP.

TC is often depicted (esp on GP bikes) as "pin the throttle and forget it". Around this all kinds of assumptions are made, such as it dumbs down racing, eliminates need for rider skill, etc.

While the Ducati GP9 GP bike has sophistcated traction control, note Nicky Hayden's own comments about it in the below article excerpt:

    http://2wheeltuesday.com/tag/nicky-hayden/

"The Desmosedici GP9 is no easy machine to master with the electrickery and the power of the Ducati make this bike a handful. Hayden even claimed during the first test `When I got in the first time I told my brother (Tommy) that I´m not sure what they pay Casey, but it´s not enough! They need to double it because the bike is a bit of an animal!´"

Below is a link to a picture of Jorge Lorenzo, who just opened the throttle his MotoGP bike with super-sophisticated TC:
