I would like to thank Monte and Bonnie for there help with my incident in turn 7. The EMT crew was right on top of it and were very helpful. I would also like to thank everyone else that helped and gave their support. Now for what happened since I know someone will ask. I was comming through turn 7 and rolled on the throttle and the chain let loose and wrapped arond the rear axle and locked up the tire. As soon as this happened another rider (I will let him decide to say who he is out of respect) was setting up a pass and got tangled up with me and we both went down hard. My back tire jumped all over and finally highsided me. The other rider was up in my back tire which I had no clue he was there. We both walked away with some scratches and some sore spots. I hope he is ok, if he would please PM me and let me know how he is. Below is a pic of my tire marks, they are the 4 dashed ones that start at the bottom right of the pic. The bikes and us ended up near the apex of turn 8 which is just off the pic.

Hey Craig - great meeting you and everyone else this weekend.

I was in the classroom when you went down and had no idea whose bike the crash truck was picking up when I got out. I was happy to see you (and the other rider) walking around in the pits after the incident.

I'm sure this was a tough one to swallow... just bad luck. Not that you'd be any happier with the result if it had been rider error, but at least then you could call it a learning experience. From what I heard, you were both inocent victims.

see you out there again soon.

My friend got it all on video. I can send you a link once he cleans it up and hosts it somewhere. Glad everyone is okay!

SERIOUSLY!?! Damn yeah I know he'll be very interested in seeing that. PM him.

Hope that toe holds up man. It could have been a lot worse though. Just ask Jake. All three of you heal up quick and get back out there.

I'm interested to know what type of chain you were using, and if you have any idea why it would have broken?

It was a 520 but I don't remember the brand. It broke at the master link.

    Hmmm. Interesting.

Glad you're OK. We all came by during the red flag to find a yard sale of bike parts at the bottom of T7, with you on your back in the middle of the mess not moving. For a minute there it was not looking good. Glad to see that no major human body parts were included in the yard sale. :D

He does have a nice bit of T8 entrance permanently imbedded in his left foot peg.

Yea, from what I have heard I was knocked out. I do want to say sorry for shutting down the track for a little while, I hate to cause any downtime for other riders.

Howdy, Not to say this was the reason of the broken chain, but there was a clip-on master link used instead of a rivet type. I am not a big fan on clip-on masters, even though I have used them on my street bikes in the past and never had a problem. But, after seeing my buddy, Jimmy "safety wire" Skrinner, knock his clip-on master link off with his boot on the front straight of Grattan and destroy his motor on his 996, that was it. They are not as strong as the rivet type and used by a lot of racers, if not all, for a reason. Just my 2 cents with a little insight on the subject.

I am looking at rims now and I am getting ready to call STG for a chain and sprocket kit and a new back tire. All I have left is a helmet and I will probably get another scorpion, I loved my old one.

Looks like you'll need to test the bike once you have all the parts...June 14th at Mid-Ohio would be a good one to test at. I'll be there, as long as I have my bike back :)

Don't sweat it. We're all going to crash at some point or another and steal some track time from others. Its part of the game we play.

However, didn't you also run out of gas earlier in the day? Running out of a gas is a different story...

    Craig,
I'm glad you're alright- other than some sore muscles and a fist-sized bit of roadrash on my abdomen, I'm fine. I'll tell you what: next time i take a two-up ride, i think I'll sit on the seat, instead of the rear tire. it'll be a whole lot less painful, i'm sure.

if anyone can let me know how to get a hold of Jim "Frenchie" Fritts, please drop me a PM or email me at lance(at)trackdaymag.com . I agreed to buy his bike after the incident & I need to know how to get money to him.
    Cheers,
    Lance
