Well to put it in a nice manner we want our Novices to be focusing on the tasks at hand and what we are covering rather than their GoPro's.. In years past there have been too many Hero Want a Be's out of the gate both in N and I...
Unsolicited advice, being your first track day, don't fret the suspension setup. Just go out and learn (track day etiquette, the track, the lines, etc., there is plenty to take in). Ask questions, take advice, use the Coach/Control Riders, that's why they are there. But most of all have fun!! Not that it's much a risk that you won't. Then, after all that, ask around the pits. There will be several people with good knowledge and experience to get you in decent suspension shape. And there are several good guides/troubleshooting pages online. This one has some good basic problem/potential solutions. http://www.sportrider.com/suspension-tuning-guide-suspension-troubleshooting-symptoms Just pay attention to what the bike is doing. But not at the expense of ignoring good riding! Have fun!! NCm is an awesome track!!
your owner's manual or the interwebs will provide a baseline setup for your compression and rebound, but first thing to do is set sag (using preload). easily done. someone will help you. I'd do it at lunch so things are warmed up.
So just use the camera in the afternoon when you're releases on free track. That's when you'll really be getting a good idea of your body position at speed. :thumb:
don't worry... if this is your 1st time at this track your body position will probably be off till lunch anyways. this track is very fun but very busy and many experienced riders haven't really figured the thing out before lunch! on a side note regarding GAS... last time I was there there was gas... they have pumps and they were working. Im not sure why they wouldn't be on this weekend especially if there is car shenanigans on the skid pad. there is a gas station 3 blocks from the track between the freeway and the track so don't expect it to be a really big deal even if the ones at the track are inoperable.
Super excited to get the bikes out for some fun at a new track for me. Can anyone provide some insight on the best areas to pit if you are wanting electric? I'm bringing the generator just in case, but any insight would be much appreciated. See y'all this weekend!
There is only electric on the Turn 1 end as of the beginning of this month. And that was very limited. I'd count on using the geni.
Does anybody know if NCM will allow us to run 2up sessions? As far as I know, Putnam (and Jennings maybe?) DO NOT permit 2up sessions. My daughter wants to come to the track if we can do a 2up session. Thanks in advance!
I want to thank the stt staff for putting on a world class event. I had a "bucket list" of a time. Met some great people on May 23rd. Novice. My coach was awesome (absorbing so much info I forgot his name! Black BMW S1000rr) and patient. I have to add, Shawn Gosselin is one of the best teachers Ive ever had. The way he explained the hammer/screwdriver technique for handlebars improved my technique, times, and speeds. Top notch guy. The body position class helped immensley, too, as my calves are killing me! This guy deserves a raise. ;-) I want to publicly apologize to Vern Lux. I made a mistake that could have ended badly. It was embarrassing to admit that after the checkered flag, I put up my hand but didnt stay left. I kept hitting the apexes. He set me right. I would forego my whole day than to hurt someone. I guess thats why Im still in novice. Unfortunately I didnt get to ride the last session. I think I was getting dehydrated. I couldnt focus, missing my braking points, mildly ran off the track. I said I was done. As for the track, world class after you figure it out. I didnt find "deception" (t12) hard at all. Chalk that upto my coaches? Thank you again, Patrick Sams ( the Cystic Fibrosis guy) 2009 red Triumph Daytona 675.
I am andrew(black bmw guy). Thanks for the ride back to the pits. Man is that a long walk. Lol. I am glad you had a great time and I hope to see you out there again soon.
Ncm Great weekend with Stt. Always puts on a great time. Looking forward to next week at CMP..gonna be there with Andrew.
Patrick........Awesome new that you had such a great experience and lots of fun out there on the track. No need for an apology, we all make mistakes, and if you learn something from it, it's all good. It's very natural to want to "ride your normal line" when going through that section, but it simply isn't the thing to do because it puts you back on the race line......which obviously isn't where you want to be if you're coming off track. Hope to see you out there again and glad you had a great time.
