Road Atlanta is the Only track that I have ever seen anything stolen at in the Last 10 Years... A couple sets of Tire Warmers at a STT Day... Then several Wallets and a Bike during a WERA Race... Gate fee's will still not keep every thief out but it will keep the ones out that are Broke...
The gate fee is charged by the venue, the price is set by track management and STT gets not a penny of that money.
I don't know about that. Putnam never has charged a gate fee, but they are required to when STT comes. Maybe the track does get to keep the money but I know STT is the only org that has a gate fee there. I always tell my friends to come another weekend if they want to visit for a bit (I live close by).
A lot of that is in the track rental fee, back when nesba was around I believe that gate fees were included in their rental agreement for that weekend. Every org is different. To me the gate fee isn't a problem compared to the rest of the costs. Hell it's cheaper than a ccs/wera weekend. Lol
Yes and I also remember the NESBA days were about $10 more per trackday than STT days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
^I remember NESBA days being cheaper than STT by about $10-$15 (150 vs 160 or 165 that they charge now). I am also 99% positive Putnam does not charge a gate fee. It's whatever the org running the show charges.
some were less, some were more.. NESBA was also a not for profit.. stt is a for profit business.. Its $10-15 bucks.. if that is prohibiting someone from getting on track then they are 1000% in the wrong sport, $10 barely buys you lunch at most tracks
Easy solution then boycott track riding :blah: Or you could start a thread to complain about tire cost, cost of gas both riding and to get to the track, hotel rates, food costs, how overly snug your underwear is etc. op:
I currently ride with at least 3 different TD orgs, pretty much at the same 6 tracks around Chicago, plus an occasional road trip to somewhere special. The only org I have ever ridden with that charges a gate fee is STT. I have asked track management at at least two tracks, and they say it is a STT contractual thing, and that they do not require it. Some orgs also arrange for no camping fees for paddock camping as part of their contracts. NESBA never had either a gate fee nor a camping fee at any track. In the current season, MWTD and Motovid do not have gate fees at their track days. I do not like the gate fee on top of the day fee. Just raise the day fee $5 or $10 and be done with the nickel and dime stuff. Just my opinion, YMMV.
I'd also prefer the day fees to be higher. Those of us who are committed to the sport are aware of all the costs and calculate it correctly anyways, and it won't decrease incentives to ride. I think charging spectators to watch is a bad idea, though. Getting street riders and casual fans to come watch is almost like advertisement for the track riding industry - we should maximize this.
Boy there sure are a lot of either foggy memories of what other orgs charged and did not charge or people just never paid attention. This all goes hand in hand for me with how many bikes are on the track at one time. I personally would pay more to have less traffic:woot: who sets the number of riders allowed at each track ??? I really do not care who is charging the gate fee. If it's the track that's fine since facilities like Barber and ACC have pretty nice amenities as far as bathrooms are concerned and they have to have someone plunge that sucker when Marc gets done in there. But if it is STT I think a RIDERS gate fee should be part of his purchase already not an added expense. Just because some of you have wads of cash to blow does not mean everyone does. I also thought part of this whole track day stuff was to get morons that ride like this off the street. But maybe that is just the way I see it. I do not mind paying for my wife and kids and whoever else I bring along with me, but feel it is kinda ignorant to ding the rider twice. I could always go back to the occasional unexpected fee for a lawyer to take care of my ticket on the street. And save all the other money I am spending with any org and buy more tires and get more miles. Hmmm sounds like I need to crawl back under my rock and continue working on healing up.
Because every time I see you at the track I get a warm fuzzy feeling like you are someone who can be part of a joke and no be offended by it. Seriously though, I need to get away from the keyboard before everyone hates me for good and get the hell back out there on the track. I am going crazy crashing sucks.
I thought $5 per person was very reasonable if it defrayed additional costs for people that bring more spectators. Spectators bring more trips to the bathroom and trash, so I thought that was a bargain and an equitable way to amortize cost for people that bring lots of spectators - or no spectators. At some trackdays with free admission, it gets pretty crowded with non-riders, which creates more liability and concern for 'public' problems, like security. I love STT events for feeling free to leave my cellphone unattended, keys in my truck, cameras laying around, etc. If crowds of non-riders are walking around, I'm less comfortable with that.
This is where I am as well. It's a pittance. If it keeps away the "honest thieves" because of the meager fee, I'm happy to pay it. I've never worried about leaving everything sitting in an unlocked van while I'm on track.
Racing always costs more. $35 for CCS, $45 for WERA. WERA (at least WERA WEST) charges spectators $10 on race day.
