Big News!! EBR teams up with Hero Motocorp LTD to sponsor EBR race teams and much more! http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=47334 Looks like Erik has the backing he needs to start full production of street bikes!
What a great weekend of racing! In Superbike race 1 Geoff May finished 6th, fantastic results for the new bike first time at Daytona. Danny's bike had some electical gremlins that sidelined him for race 1. Race two Danny finished 9th, he accomplished what he wanted to do, a top 10 finish, he is still getting use to the bike. Geoff"s bike droped a valve which ended his day. Trap speed during pratice was third fastest at over 205, the bike has the muscle to compete, this is going to be a great year for AMA racing, and given a little time the 1190rs should end up on the podium soon!
Could this be right! Jake Zemke on a EBR 1190rs, either he is or this is a misprint, doubt it is a misprint, but this would be a great addition to the team. Part 5 EBR Nation video, the continuing documentry on Erik Buell and the 1190rs. Good footage of Geoff and Danny at Jennings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFazKZFmpzU
The Big Kahuna at Road Atlanta was great, Geoff finished 5th in the first race, and that was his first top five since being on the EBR. Race 2 was a bit of a bummer, Geoff was runing in the top 4 and his shifter came loose and about fell off, had to go into the pits, by the time he got back out he was at the back of the pack, managed to make his way back up to 13th. Danny had two top 10 finishes, in race 2 he and Chris Filmore on the KTM had a good race going, Danny was able to catch and pass Filmore on the last lap. Other good news! I talked at length with several people with EBR and they have confirmed 2013 production. Initially 2 models a sportbike, and a naked version. The Sportbike will differ slightly from the 1190rs, but will carry most of the styling from the 1190. At this time 80-90% of the tooling is finished, suppliers are on board and dealers are signing up quickly. Was going to get an MV F3, but now I am going to wait on the new EBR.
He didnt say it was the fastest lap time he had turned on a bike.Plus been a few years since hes rode a 1000 Suzuki so I am sure that the new bikes are a little faster than the ones he rode for them.PLus check the Daytona trap speeds his 1190 was right up there close to all of them.Geoff is a very good freind of mine.
It is no longer getting closer EBR 1190rs, it is 1190rs has arrived!!! WOO HOO!!! what a ride, Danny was hauling the mail, Geoff made up a lot of ground from a rough start, I really did not think the EBR could get on the podium this soon, but Danny has done it, yes America we have a real SUPERBIKE!!!
Woo Hoo 2 for 2, Geoff May gets in on the podium action, and Danny slides into 6th, great weekend for the EBR team, almost can't believe it, just fantastic, only way it could have been any better is a 1st place finish, that may take a while longer, but I am just pumped about Geoff and Danny's performance, congratulations guys!!!
Its amazing what money can do.The rider talent has been there, now they have talent all around them with all the new people they hired with the money. The team will keep working and if they can get more power out of that engine then we will keep seeing success I think.Good job to the whole team but I want to say good job Geoff. He never gave up. I know because I was there to try and help him when he lost his ride and started his own team it was rough for him alot of people gave up him him but he never gave up on himself.
I think we all have had to spit out a few feathers from time to time, I know I have. The bike is really awesome, and with more development time it will only get better. I am curious what the rules will be next year for electronics, personnally I think they should not be allowed, that will let the riders ability shine through, but I doubt that will happen, so something that levels the playing field and keeps cost down is what I would like to see. You will be able to buy a 2013 EBR 1190RX soon, 90% of all the tooling is complete, dealers are signing up and EBR has confirmed two new models for 2013 and they will be affordable!!! So I start to save my pennies now.
The RX is being decontented vs the RS in an effort to homologate it for World Superbike next year. WSB homolgation requires selling 1000 bikes by the end of the year. That would have been tough at $40k each, but minus mag wheels & the $2k instrument cluster, & switching to plastic bodywork (& countless other smaller things I'm guessing) they hope to be able to pull it off at $20k each. If they do, they plan to put an American rider on it too. Fingers crossed.
I believe they are still within the rules. I'm guessing the EBR frame does not require any additional welding. I would really love to see the results of AMA SBK running with BSB-like electronics, but I don't think it will happen. I also would love to see an EBR in WSBK! I think that would be a great place for Nicky if he gets the shaft from Ducati this year or Colin if his CRT doesn't improve. :rawk: 4.6 Frame a. Frame and Sub Frame i. The main frame must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer for use on the homologated motorcycle with the following noted exceptions: 1. Strengthening gussets and tubes may be added, but none may be removed. 4.9 Airbox/Intakes/Fuel Supplyb. Fuel Tanks i. Fuel tank may be modified or replaced provided that it maintains the stock appearance and is of sufficient capacity to complete a 50-mile race. Any stock tanks that are not of sufficient capacity will be allowed to be modified or replaced per special allowances. Non-metallic fuel tanks are not allowed unless when standard equipment on the homologated machine or approved by AMA Pro Racing. Non-metallic fuel tanks are not allowed to be modified. Frames that are utilized as fuel cells may be modified for increased capacity but must conform to all applicable frame rules I am very excited to see what else comes out of the EBR works. From what I've heard so far, a lightly modified 1190RX sounds like an excellent trackday bike.
The target price for the 1190rs is $18995.00, and they are looking at simple electronics package, basically on or off. Nicky on a EBR in SBK would be awesome, but his destiny is still up in the air. I really think Eric will have a team in SBK next year, the EBR 1190 has had great success in Europe the last two years with the Pegasus race team, they have one the German championship the last two years, so the bike has a following already. Europe has been a great market for Buells, hell you can get a 20 times the parts and accessories over there than we can here. So here is to the success of the "American Superbike"!!!
