no prob man, its all good. You ended up clipping along and looked smooth to me. Not that Im all that or anything, I mean I can ride a bike and all, but Im not a racer. I have lots of learning ahead. It was fun. If you watch my videos I think your on it in some other sessions later on in the day. did you have a lap timer?

That's good to hear, thanks for the feedback.

Nope, I borrowed a friend's GPS data-logger for Grattan a few weeks ago (to look at the data later, I didn't have a way to mount the head unit to see the lap times while riding), but didn't bother to do so again for GingerMan. I decided I wouldn't get caught up in looking at lap times and instead just focus on learning how to ride better without thinking about times.

Seems like I remember you saying you had a lap-timer on your bike though. Whatever your times were, I was probably 2-3 seconds slower.

    Matthew.

How cool is that, show up for a track day (saturday for us) and end up sharing the paddock with a Moto 2 bike. We were trying to figure out what the hell kinda bike that was all day! That truly was an unexpected treat for me.

I'm pretty sure that was my Saturday morning finish for the weekend you have preserved there for posterity. The last things I remember clearly for a while was an intense feeling of self-assholicism as I began my off-road journey, and thinking that I would be able to keep upright. I was obviously wrong on one of my observations.

Sorry to bring out a red flag on the 1st session of the day. It was a dumb mistake, and I could kick myself. Now I can't wait to get back to Gingerman and do it right.

You certainly shouldn't worry about causing a red flag and glad to hear you want to return.

I was the one following you during the end of that first session when the checkered flag was flying (you were following the instructor, I was following you, and as I found out later, tikki50 was following us). As you can see in the video, tikki50 ended up passing me in that turn as I slowed down while watching you (hoping to see that you'd save it).

It looked like you were worried about tipping it in enough to make the turn (which ended up happening to me later in the day too but in a different turn). What I remember seeing and I can see it on the video paused at 0:15 is that you still had the bike leaned as you went off the track. Shortly after going into the sand trap, that lean caught the front tire and sent you down (pretty hard from what it looked like). So remember, anytime you leave the track surface, not only do you not touch the brakes as all the STT staff keep reminding people, but make sure you stand up the bike totally straight.

I sure hope you are ok (assuming mostly so, since you didn't say anything about being hurt). If I heard correctly, you stayed down for a bit. How bad was it?

How's the bike and what kind is it (I think I saw something red, but I could be wrong on that)?

    Matthew.

I carried too much speed into the turn and was still braking hard past were I would normally tip in for my corner entry. My front was chattering as I entered the turn, and when I looked at my telemetry afterwards, I saw that I came off throttle, doing everything I could to make the front push even worse.

I should have just pitted the previous lap. I camped up on the hill, and after the riders' meeting had rushed to get there and into my leathers, and was a lap or two late start even so. In my opinion, I set myself up to crash before I was even on the track by not taking the time to focus my mind on riding, and letting myself be distracted and tense in my rush. I even remember feeling my shoulders were tensed up, which is not at all normal for my riding. But I didn't pay attention to my internal warnings...I will next time. For sure!

I'm a little fuzzy on my recall, but I have a vague impression of starting to stand the bike up and seeing a ditch in front of me once I left the track. Not sure if that is correct or not, but I would be curious to know if there is a ditch or I just made that up.

I'm fine. A broken rib or two, a few more ribs separated from cartilage, a slight lung puncture and pulmonary contusion. I cracked the EPS liner of my helmet from front to rear on the left side. I remember finding myself in the ambulance, and things are hazy for a few hours after that (although I did have the presence of mind to tense my abs when a young female doctor examined me....and she busted me immediately. A little later, I forgot that I had done it, so I did it again. And she busted me again to her amusement). A hat tip to Shoei, I didn't even have a headache afterward.

The bike is not too bad, mostly plastics....correction...ALL the plastics. On the downside, it is a Ducati 848, so I don't think that there is a cheap part to be had there. I should have it and me back together in a couple of weeks. And if I feel rushed to the point of distraction in the future, I sure as hell won't hesitate to pit in or skip a session. I learned that lesson.

glad to hear you doing good, Here's the raw video if you missed the link I promised you the video:

    http://sakorasalon.com/downloads/track_videos.html

Honestly from the inital fall, I didnt think it looked that bad. The problem that I scene with that off is the sand, its very deep. if you hit that, wether your wheel is straight or not, your most likely going down.

Mat I wasnt trying to pass you I fixated on the wreck and ran wide once I regained my direction I think I ended up passing you, it wasnt intentional. But did haul ass off the track so the medics could do their job.
