The tire is always what I shoot for as my brake marker sometimes a break before that i almost always rolloff before that. It depends on what's going on in front of me. It's amazing how many people you'll beat into t1 by trying to use that tire as a marker. At one point I was working my way though a pack of bikes and think it was J-fuggin-t ( it was a green zx) comes burning around all of us braking really late for T1. Looked like the front of the bike was just buried back of the bike moving all over. It was really cool.
I thought that was what I was doing but after watching my video I was way way early. Reminds me of Steve's track map. Maybe we should amend that map and draw the tire in for reference!
That's why I brought up the question, I would pass 5-6 bikes at the end of the straight and think to myself... "Yeah I'm going plenty deep" then boom, orange vest blows by me on the inside!
JT is a really late breaker and that tire is a really late break marker. I'd say really fast novice or average expert racers running 1:23's or less.
Here is how that went real time. You'll notice I started braking well before the tire due to traffic in front. I really don't want to be the guy that slams into somebody. So if there is traffic I tend to be overly cautious. http://youtu.be/YUC6558C6NU
that was the guy on the zx10 #777, he and i were having fun in the video i posted, he is pretty good on the brakes as well.
Yep, that about sums up my experience. I feel pretty confident braking late on my Panigale but I'm not going to just "Do IT" I have a plan for the 4th of July weekend that will consist of rolling off at the last yellow line then braking at the tire... The variable will be the speed at which I'm at when I get to all of this and I'm setting my max at maybe 150 by the end of the weekend... I may ask to be evaluated after lunch to get bumped to "A" according to my friends lap timer we were running 30's and averaged 34's at a smooth pace and never had any o poop moments. we were sandwiched in between 2 instructors that session and it was lots of thumbs ups!
As long as your lines are good, you should have no problem in Advanced. I was running 28's-30's and was passing a decent amount of riders. There were a bunch of A guys in the 32-35 range Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
:lmao: I'm not a monster braker like JT. I start a little earlier than the tire and trail it all the way to the apex. I also use a pad compound that has a bit less initial bite so I can feel the front working right up to where it is starting to fold. I had one t1 entry where it did fold and I'm really happy to have the attack triples. I just held it for a second on my knee and eased off the lever and she came back, easy peasy. Cornered a bit low that time.
When not running at pace in the first couple sessions I try to find a couple of sequential marks in the track or slightly off track references. Then brake at one of them, then gas past that one, then gas past second etc... I've also been known to walk the track in the evening and move cones to where I think they should be.
Steve Did you have the track maps and in Ivan's garage? If so I was up there after nearly all the sessions with my Wife. First group buy was kind of fun so I may put together another. Maybe DID chain and sprockets , brake lines or lap timer .I am going to be in need of all those soon.
Nope I was in garage #1. You may be confusing me with one of the other two giant monkeys riding gsxrs, Chad and Dan. I was the one impersonating the "Police" on track and riding my trusty yellow gsxr.
I know Dan and Chad...Didn't realize you were the police impersonator. I watched you pass me on the outside of the bowl at one point.
Lines are pretty good someone taught you well. Hitting apexes well, could go wider on corner exits but that will come with more speed. Question at corner #11 there's a depression are you going thru it or around it? Cant tell with the ass cam vid:jester: Anyway its a good place to apply a lot of throttle since its cambered. This will help your speed on the straight. I'm on the gas really hard there.
I caught you into the bowl and passed on the outside of sweeper. Bike actually did a little wheelie when I hit that bump at 6:40min. Can be a little unnerving when leaned over at 100+. Had it spin up a little there too. 5:13 in the vid the tack instantly goes from 13000rpm to 14000. I should know better almost high sided there last year.
Thanks! Those lines are mine that I tought myself from walking the track and thinking arc's and straights. The wider exits came Sunday. I have another video from Sunday where I picked up the pace to low 30's and was really letting the bike use the track. I can't wait till 4th weekend!
