Hi guys, I have a question about entering the bus stop. I've been watching all of these videos, and it looks like you guys are all taking a defensive line into that corner. Is there a benefit to being more to the inside of the track in that corner? For reference, after the peak/apex in the sweeper, I pretty much am full throttle in a straight line to the extreme outside edge of the bus stop. I turn in from the far outside of the track. Just looking for some insight from you guys. I'm afraid if I keep doing that, I'm going to pinch someone off trying to pass up the inside, but that's the line that feels comfortable for some reason. Thanks a bunch!

Middle to 3/4 out on the track is prob the best line through there, it gives you a straight line from the exit past the kink & up the hill, however it's a bus stop, there are multiple ways through it and depending on the situation and or traffic the line may vary. I know I take it a couple different ways in my video & it just depended on what I was given.

Cool, thanks for the reply! I've never thought about it that way, but it does makes sense that bus stop type corners would be more situational. I'll keep that in mind for July 5/6 :bounce:
I've seen every different kind of line through there, but now it makes more sense to me as to why.

That's me not completing the shift from 1st to 2nd and having to slam/ grind the bike into gear. Operator error.

Me getting a chase from my buddy. I tried a couple different lines out on 1 lap. I wanted to see if a wider line would give me more drive if I needed it.

Almost tucked the front end right at the end trying to turtle spot! Glad Im easy on the bars and spent my entire life playing in the dirt!

I definitely see some stuff I need to work on. Im glad he followed me and shot the video.

Steve, Im going on the outside of the dip on 11, I'll start turning a little harder at the top of the hill so I can hit the middle of that and pour on the coals!

I am just fast enough to get to watch the fast guys get away and I get to make some observations that I try to apply to my riding.

During one session I had JD40 come by me and I was able to see a few things. With no traffic, he used all the bus stop entry and he did the same for T1. When I did YCRS last summer Nick, Ken and Scott Russell got on me for not using all the track. When I did a two up with Scott, Nick instructed Scott to show me how to use all the track. I think we used the pit wall on the front straight at Miller as a berm.

YCRS note. lean angle = risk Radius = MPH so by opening it up you can go the same speed with less risk, or use the same lean and go faster.

I managed to pit out a bit behind Oliver and was reminded "smooth = fast" he was moving along with no drama just slowly pulling away and making it look easy.

I saw this a lot too, and I need to check myself when I get tired and a bit sloppy. Buts in the middle of the seat.

I find myself fishing for position as I'm turning in. Seat position is a topic that I really want to learn more about. I need to make a list of questions to ask the STT coaches for the next track day.

    Thanks for the video BTW!

The thing to remember about the bus stop is that there is no fast line through it. The turn is slow and gettin out of it and back on the gas is what's important.

That being said the defensive line is 25-50% of track which I use in a race if somebody is on my tail. The faster line is 50-75% of track. I don condone defensive lines at trackdays

I kinda thought the same thing, 50- 75%. But seeing Jason use the whole thing made me think there may be something there, using all of it to get the bike pointed and have a slightly higher rolling speed and more space to fire it out.

Jason was making up his time in the sweeper, i talked to him quite a bit about a few lines, he towed me around earlier in the day and gave some feedback. He holds wide open from the exit of the bowl until his brake marker for the bus stop. Nevermind the two dips that will make the bike wheelie while being leaned over  he said to just ride it out and stay loose LOL, i tried it sunday and it does work, however i pussed out on the first part :lmao:

I saw a video of Eslick, showing his throttle hand. The odd thing was how little it moved. He got the throttle quickly and smoothly to the stop and it stayed there until it was time to brake.

( he also had that huge highside at Road America )
