had a great time but think im going to sit out a few months, had a really big scare twice 2nd session 3rd lap in Intermediate, turn 5, was about 6 wide inches off "race line" and rear went out from under me, felt it, dropped gas and rear tire caught, high sided and held on, knees got far enough up to hit top of handlebars, ok i thought, maybe too much on gas exiting turn, same lap get to turn 8/9 museum turn, coming out of turn losing traction again on rear wheel on opposite side. threw the arm out and pitted. checked tires, the pressure and grip was fine, i run tire warmers, running pirelli dragon supercorsas II, ive had no problems with these in the past. i immediately packed shop and went home. even had nightmares about it. im a very cautious rider and have taken my sweet time even getting to intermediate. novice coaches last year taught me tons and i never push it beyond my skill and ability and i still break too early for turns, better safe than sorry i suppose. this is on a 2008 Ducati 1098S. Ken has the suspension dialed in to the T for me, brakes stop on a dime, cant complain one bit. i dunno if it is just rider error on my part but wow it has shaken me big time. Sorry i wasnt able to have you drag me around the track Stephen, i just couldnt stomach or get the nerve to go back out there. it was another great day at Barbers and the staff is hands down the best around. I really have to thank the novice coaches again for 8 days last year for everything they taught me and the Intermediate coaches as well for giving good points and realizing some people dont want to push the envelope too much and still show them how to have a good time and ride the right lines and further develop my skillset. keep the shiny side up guys. -Carbonization
Don't tell him that it's actually true! He'll NEVER pit near you guys again Of course I wouldn't just because of the smell
If everything is good on your bike and the track conditions were good it's likely rider error of some sort. Maybe you're picking up the pace a bit now that you're in I group and need to work on body position to take some of your lean angle away. I haven't ridden with you so I'm just throwing one thing out there that it could be. Sounds like it freaked you out a good bit. As we start getting faster and pushing our limits, we all make little mistakes. Blow a corner, spin up the rear, push the front, etc. You hung in there and didn't crash, plus you've now got that experience of making it out of a 'situation.' My advice is to get back on the horse and try your best to put it behind you. When I was new to the track and had a moment I would pull in the pits, take a breather, and wait for next session to go back out. Now, if I have a moment, I focus on the next section of the track, try my best to put it behind me and not do the same thing on the next lap and keep on truckin.
Actually, I was 2 bikes behind him; He started blowing smoke after he bottomed out and approached 14. Lost him when he went around the turn and crashed, dodged rider and whatever he spilled, went down to end of straight and turned back up pit out. I was afraid it was oil and was going to put me down also. I think only two of us got past it before they red flagged...I may have it on video have to check.
I'd like to publicly thank TPM guest instructor Fred for all the help he gave me in A over the weekend. In at least 6 sessions he passed me, then slowed down just enough to let me follow him without getting so far away that I'd give up. He could have easily taken off after the REALLY fast guys, but instead held back to perform instructor duties. Even let me get close enough to put a pass on him a few times so he could follow again. It also helped as he would over-exaggerate his body position in some of the corners (left's mostly) as a reminder to get me to get more off the bike and keep it upright. After the session he'd stop with me and talk about where he say places I could improve. On Saturday he pulled me to my new best time, and on Sunday next to last session I beat that (now 1:42:83). Would not have had the courage except for his encouragement and it was very much appreaciated. Also, thanks Brett for releasing my cooler from jail...and who was that guy that kept leaving suggestive notes on my truck about going 'both ways'? Thanks!
Just wanted to say thanks to the STT staff\coaches and members for the warm welcome and support for the weekend. Trevor, Cindi, Felix, Jim, Larry, Gina, Micheal, Ed, Kevin and the many other coaches/staff, (sorry if I forgot anyone's name) were great to work with. The members we got to help were great too. Everyone made us feel right at home and we had an absolute blast. We, Mike and I, were the coaches from TPM that made the trek down to ride. We had raced at Barber back in 2006 and loved the place. When the opportunity came to ride here again, you know planets aline, vacation time, family things and no other conflicting events, we jumped at the chance to come back. A great track and with great people made for a unforgettable weekend and looking forward to many, many more. Thanks again to all and hope to see you all again soon or in 2013.
I had another outstanding weekend at Barber. It had been a year since my last track day, but I did manage to learn a few more things and improve a bit. Sorry I didn't hook back up with you CR Rick to work with me on Sunday. I did take the advice you gave me Saturday and with your tips and what I found from my Saturday videos, I managed to chop another 4 seconds off my Saturday best time by Sunday afternoon and ended my day feeling I left a few more on the table for next time. Just don't know if my Husky can handle much more of that riding WFO all day. :rawk:
Keith, I didnt have the heart to tell you what mr.bothways did to your cooler while wearing your vest. :bounce:ound:
I thought that was you I saw leaving didn't get a chance to catch ya. Odd you having two slides like that in one day. Change those tires out and get back out there you just have to keep at it and you will be a better rider for it:thumb:
I'd like to thank Lindsey for the tow on Sunday, I had trouble finding a rhythm this past weekend but had a blast anyway even if the weather didn't cooperate.
f4i-22, I hope you saw my thumbs up later in the day. You had the 'tard rolling! I was behind you on the SV and heard your throttle hit wfo right in the corner and I yelled "yea!" in my helmet. You looked great! It was awesome riding with you! I had a great time seeing you all. Rick.
GEORGE, if I dont see you at Barber at he next 2 events i hope to see you at NCCAR in Nov.. Sorry I couldnt make it... Marc/Trophy...LOL:thumb:
Listen, we have already dispelled one misconception, we don't need any more. Lol. Ltyson Sent using Tapatalk
The weather DID cooperate Good seeing you again Dom. Head down and and it will help you get through those corners :thumb:
Thanks STT for another great weekend. I was afraid of the big Intermediate group because it was my first time after being bumped up. Coaches and corner workers did a great job keeping the track under control and riders safe. I even enjoyed playing with the bike on wet asphalt. Thanks again to the coaches for keeping a reference pace I could use to gain confidence. Oh, and pics are up!
NCCAR in Nov sounds good, we plan on doing them just because days up north are limited. I'm working to squeeze in another Barber weekend.
