I dont want to pay $50 for 2 sticky sheets to slap on the side of my bike that cost $5 to manufacture .. Anybody else use anything else for tank grip other than skateboard tape and the usual stomp or techspec ... And another thing, why dont a-stars, dainese, teknic, etc. Make grips sewn into the inside knee on their suits ... They'd make a killing .. Just a thought .. Im comtiplating "modifying" mine w/ some sewn on grips anyways !! What do you use ??
I bought the standard stomp-grip. So not much help. However, I have heard of riders buying a "square of something" that was cut and used. Again, not much help.
The thing about having something grippy on leathers, especially in an impact area like the knees, is that it can grip the asphalt in a crash and turn sliding into tumbling.
There are several leathers manufacturers that do make those grips on their suits. You just have to pay the premium for that specific model. A* race replicas have extended knee areas that help grip. I know Heroic also has this in their suits. Also, STT and Apex Mfg. are selling some pretty sweet HT-Moto pads that can be used as a seat on superbike tails as well as tank grip. I'm sure Teddy or someone in the know about the prices, etc will chime in.
http://apexmfg.com/products/tank-pads This stuff is really nice. It's what Draik runs, as well as several other guys on the US129Photos.com Race Team...oh, and I beleive DiSalvo, and Myers too. Oh, and of course the Apex Team too.
ATTENTION ALL: i am ordering a 23x86 sheet of grip from hydroturf(what apex sells) since it is the smallest sheet they sell and i only need 12x24 of it .. i will put the rest up for sale until accounted for .. it is going to be diamond cut w/ snow camo pattern .. apex charges $20 per 12x12 section .. ill charge $13 for 12x12 free shipping until the rest of the sheet that i do not need is gone (paypal as payment) ... PM me if interested .. if i get a couple takers to buy up the rest ill go ahead and purchase although i have not yet made the purchase thanks:thumb:
Is it that blue-camo color? *edit.. Nvm. i see you posted "white-camo" Interested in purchasing. Is this enough material to cover both sides of a '05 gsxr tank?
I'm not sure if this stuff is any good or not, but I found it on Grainger. I'm going to research it a bit more. The price is pretty good though. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/JESSUP-MANUFACTURING-AntiSlip-Tape-3EYK6?Pid=search *** Update: I called Jessup Manufacturing, and they have three different products they're going to send me samples of. Once I get a chance to check them out, I'll post up a report. They seel through some distributors other than Grainger too, which is good, since Grainger won't sell to the general public. http://www.jessupmfg.com/products/non-slip-tapes/
Some people swear by this: http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=238629&highlight=walmart+tank+grip
Just a quick note as a business owner - Apex, Stomp Grip and others charge what they charge because there is a cost associated with doing business. Payroll, payroll taxes, sales tax, property tax, workman's comp, insurance, facility rental, utilities, on and on and on. Don't begrudge their ability to make a profit. It allows them to continue to offer product and service long after you or others have tired of ordering and distributing at a loss.
FWIW I've used Stomp Grip and Tech Spec and I prefer the TS. It offers at least as much grip and does so in a more comfortable manner.
im not starting my own business here .. i simply purchased the smallest sheet hydroturf had and im selling the extras same as anyone would on here .. i wont even break even selling it at that proce just lookin to make some back on .... either way hydroturf go paid for their services so im not stealing any business from them ... if selling products of another manufacturer is going to be scrutanized then take out the buy/sell section on here cause all of those products werent made by the person selling they are simply extra parts that arent needed ... same with me thanks for the concern though
Certainly. However, based on my experience, those who would go out of their way to save $10 by purchasing outside of the local community (community in this case being those who make a living developing and sometimes re-selling products for us to use at the track) are the same people who complain when a helpful, community-based company goes out of business, leaving mail order and big box chains as the only alternative. Spend your dollar as you will, but also give consideration to those who support what you love. Does no one else see the irony in using the very forum provided by the ones who make and sell Apex products to criticize their ability to make a profit and thereby provide a forum to share information and grow the community? Whatever.
Perhaps I misread your tone in your original post, which is entirely possible. It came across as very accusatory towards someone who would offer a product at a markup.
agreed i understand but im selling a small amount and it wasnt intended to offend any manufacturer or seller of the product UPDATE: but then again snow camo aint for everyone and hydroturf DID GET PAID MSRP for the product i bought directly from them
